Is henna on hair safe when breastfeeding?

Does anyone have information on whether or not dying hair with henna is safe when breastfeeding and/or pregnant? I am tired of plucking gray hairs, and it is probably safe to assume that I will be breastfeeding and/or pregnant for several more years.

Hi, I noticed you had no responses on your thread and so even though I'm not sure of the answer I wanted to respond. I'm thinking henna is safe - if you get pure (non-kit, non-mixed) henna from a good source...it is a plant and you can do a skin test patch first.

I just henna'd my hair and love it. I had an itchy scalp and sensitive skin issues that were exacerbated by chemical coloring every six weeks or so. Like you I was also tired of dealing with the gray creeping in. The henna blended really well and covered all the gray. My fine-textured hair feels thicker and glossy now and my scalp is fine. My hair is very bright "irish-setter" red now, but everyone has different results and you can tweak your color by using a combination of plants - the website hennaforhair is really a very good resource ansd tells you all you'd need to know, and the person who runs the sight would likely be able to answer your question definitively. Good luck!
