I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there who does their sewing on an old Singer Featherweight? I love mine but I wonder if I'm the only one in the world who uses them still?

o
Oh no...there are tons of folks that do. I use mine, especially for piecing a quilt because it has such a nice looking stitch.

oh you are not alone... evil chuckle... if you want to explore a world of us crazy sewing machine folks check out

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/featherweight/ a group devoted to featherweights specifically

and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vintagesingers/ a group devoted to the old Singer machines, all different models

and my fave http://www.treadleon.net/ a group devoted to the people powered machines of treadles and handcranks

beware if you click on any of those links your house and life may just be filled with hundreds of thousands of sewing machines... or at least your dreams will be

My 'regular' machine for the last year or so has been a FW that I converted to a treadle it is so nice, the stitches are nice even and straight, it is a quiet machine and I'm confident on adjusting and working on it if for some reason it would 'break' which most likely it won't because it's an all metal geared no plastic, ready to crumble and break machine or something with a motherboard that is going to get it's 'brain' fried during a lightning storm.

Lightheart,
That is so awesome and thanks for the links! I just send in requests to join the two groups. I can't wait!

You're not alone. My BFF and her mom both have featherweight machines. They are awesome quilters and I guess these machines are favored by quilters for the stitch and the portability. I wish I had one. . .

Love my featherweight! Technically, I have two (one from each grandmother)--though the second is at my mom's for now.

I would LOVE a featherweight! I do have a 15-91, which is a straight stitch only machine. SO sturdy.
