That was kind of freaky

I'm 3 weeks post-partum, and I just about passed out this morning! I had already gotten up and showered and felt fine, then DD woke up so I was sitting on the bed nursing her and I started having horrible uterine cramps -- they've been relatively mild up until now, so it seemed odd that they'd suddenly come on so strong. I thought maybe I needed to go to the bathroom, so when DD finished on the first side I set her down and stood up to walk to the bathroom, and suddenly felt all clammy and nauseous, and blackness started crowding my vision. I sat back down and called DH to ask him to call me back in 5 minutes to make sure I hadn't passed out.

Eventually, while on the phone with DH, I made it downstairs and grabbed a handful of Wheat Thins and some water (all I had for dinner was cereal, so I thought my blood sugar might be too low). I sat on the couch for about 20 minutes before I could get up without feeling like I was going to pass out. I started feeling better after eating, and ibuprofen helped the cramps go away.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is it normal for severe cramps during nursing to start this far post-partum?

About nine days pp I suddenly developed really bad cramping, and flu like symptoms (fever, chills, nausea, dizziness). They went away during the night but started up again the next morning.

I went to emergency where I had a high resting heart rate, a fever and severe dehydration. Turns out I had a uterine infection which can be fatal if left untreated.

If you start to feel gross again you should get definitely checked out.
