New Clothes Line!! - Page 2

My mom dried EVERYTHING on the clothesline when we were kids. The only things I hated were the "cardboard" towels and stiff jeans.
But, then I just had my DH hang our clothesline this weekend and dried all the diapers and covers outside today... The prefolds ended up having to go in the dryer because they didn't dry before dark, but the covers are so nice and fresh smelling!!!
And if my neighbors complain? Too bad. lol I have to walk through their cigarette butts and watch my step for the dog poop (we live in townhome apartments and share a "yard") so needless to say, I don't care one whit what they think! :

That sucks having to share a yard, especially with people who aren't the tidiest. Kudos to you on your line though I also find that most of my diapers take forever to dry. There are many times I have brought them in after being out all day, just to discover that they aren't dry yet! I just hang them in the house overnight till they dry.

But, even if you have to toss the diapers in the dryer for 15 minutes or so to finish drying them, think of all the energy you're still saving. I know my prefolds and hemp fitteds usually take 60-70 minutes to dry in the dryer.

I wish I had a clothesline. Our landlord probably won't let us install one. I need to con DH into tying a rope between 2 trees and using that.

I would love to throw them in a dryer for a min or two but I unfortunately don't have a dryer as I am in a tri-plex with out a laundry facility. We have to go in to town to do our laundry. There is actually a dryer downstairs, but it is only used by the people who live downstairs and they are not the cleanest people. They don't actually wash clothes, they simply throw in their dirty things to "freshen" them up. That is why they are the only ones that use it!!

Eeeewww! I don't blame you for not wanting to use that dryer. YUCK!

Did you get your line back up? I was hanging clothes out on my new line (pictures) yesterday and suddenly it started to sag majorly...so much that I decided to take the towels off. I thought about your line falling and I kept checking it to make sure it hadn't fallen over completely (not concreted in place yet) DH put a temporary stake in the ground for me to dry clothes today and is now on his way to Lowe's to buy concrete. I'm loving the line drying...hope the new-ness doesn't wear off too soon!

How about a drying rack (or two)? Things don't dry as quickly, IME, but I used it last weekend along with a retractable line strung across the garage to dry our clothes before I got my real clothesline up. Maybe you could get a retractable line and install it above your bathtub?

Ya, pretty nasty!!

I haven't got the line back up yet I am hoping this weekend. I miss it so much even though I haven't had it long. Be careful with it, wouldn't want it to fall over!!

I'm glad you are enjoying the line dried goodness!! I don't think it will wear off, at least not for me. I am already thinking of when the colder weather comes and it will be too cold for hanging and it makes me sad.

I love line drying my clothes. We just started doing it again about a month ago. Whenever I am driving through neighborhoods I always look for other people drying their clothes outside, just because I love to see it.

Here is our line earlier today!

Just wanted to say nothing nicer than fresh smelling clothes.
How do you set up a clothes line on your balcony? It never really occurred to me that you could do such a thing.

Just set up clothesline in the "yard" (aka cement ugliness) of our apartment building. Ancient hooks that probably predated the use of washers were still back there, so we just set them up and are leaving them out there - hoping the landlord doesn't complain. Now that mynetname talked about hanging out bedclothes everyday, I want to try to hand mine out more - sounds delicious.

I LOOOOVE crunchy towels. It's like my grandma did my laundry every time I hang the towels on the clothes line! I even think that they work better

It's like the crunchier they are, the more absorbent they are!!

For those with "sagging" lines, we have a set of poles (maybe 6-7ft) with a sort of a hook at the end to prop the lines when something heavy or long is on them. You just support it in the middle with it.
Crunchy towels are excellent for your skin - exfoliating as my neighbour calls them.
I share lines with 5 other neighbours (only 2 others really use them tho) and we just LOVE good drying days (sunny and windy) and often have a sit down with a cup and cookie under out fluttering laundry so sharing a drying green is not always so bad .
