How to sterilize Mooncup?

I bought a mooncup (the one made by the keeper company) a couple weeks ago and I just noticed that I'm getting AF. I need to use it, but it hasn't been sterilized since I got it.

If you have one, how did you prepare it for it's first use?

TIA.

I've just started trying one.. not sure I am going to like it. But, why does it need to be sterilized? I washed it with warm soapy water and that was it. Our vaginas aren't sterile environments and we don't sterilize other 'items' (such as your husband) that go there.

Yes, but I know where my hubby's penis has been. This mooncup arrived in the mail from who-knows-where, covered in lint. I have nightmares that it is a recycled return. :Puke

LOL, now that is recycling! What about tossing it in the dishwasher???

I washed mine with soap three times before using. (Mild hand soap and rinse very well). Why don't you put it in boiling water and let it soak for a minute or two - that is what the company advices.

What terrifying images I got in my head - sterilizing a penis!

Although I don't have a mooncup- diva cup- I boil mine after every AF. Of course I don't boil it everytime I change it, just warm soapy water for that.

You just put it in boiling water for 5 minutes and voila!

Is this the one made from rubber or silicone?

Mooncup would the silicone one.

I just wash mine with warm soapy water, though I haven't used it nearly as much as I thought I would.

BTW, recycling something like that would be a major violation of laws. Some things are simply not allowed to be reused in such a way.

I have been using mine on and off for the past 3 years. I wash it in soapy water at the end of the day (do not like it for night time - use mama cloth instead) and boil it after my AF is finished, ready for the next month. I do not have a problem using a small cooking pot for that as obviously it gets sterilised as well as the mooncup while it is boiling.
I have the silicone mooncup and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! would not go back to other stuff if they paid me to do it!!!

and on that personal note let me introduce myself to this forum!

Boiling it is fine and I do that sometimes. My favorite way to clean it is to scrub it with alcohol preps. It removes every trace of staining that boiling and scrubbing won't remove.

Ah, the silicone one can either be boiled or washed in the top rack of the dishwasher.
