I need a potty for the car ASAP!

We're going away in a few weeks, and I'd rather not stop at grimy rest stops, so we need a car potty. I looked on Amazon, but it's very confusing, and people either seem to love or hate every one they have. Can someone break it down for me. I need to order it by tomorrow. TIA!

for the car (and in general, really) i like the Once Upon a Potty. it's one solid piece, so nothing to get lost or broken or anything, and it's a squat-style so they are more comfortable which means it happens faster (a big plus in the car, IMO). it also has a pretty wide base so it doesn't get tipped/spilled easily. and the front is nice and high for little boys, which is nice.

when i take ours on long trips when i know it'll be used a lot, i usually keep some disposable wet wipes handy so i can keep it clean. if you have some old towels or prefolds you could lay those inside, too, which helps keep the potty cleaner (but then means laundry to do of course).

it's small enough for infants to use, but my 5 year old still uses it in emergencies comfortably, and my very big almost 3 yo uses it pretty frequently. when we're not going somewhere i keep it in the house - we only have one bathroom and thus one toilet, so if someone else is in there when he needs to go urgently, he uses it.

and i've had it since DD1 was about 9 months old and it's still in perfect shape.

If you have an ikea near you, they sell potties, and they are like $3 each

When my oldest was 3 she was sick right before leaving on a LOOOONNG road trip, so we brought the "puke bucket". After being stuck on an 8 mile stretch of 95 for FOUR hours in the middle of NYC poor kid had to go potty. Whipped down her pants she pee'd in the bucket (old tupperware bowl) and it worked out just fine!!!

Here's a link for the Ikea one. We use it for our car and because it is one piece it's easy to clean and like the other poster said there are no pieces to lose.

we use a larger size pastic coffee can mainly for pee but have used it for poo too, was difficult for the little guy to squat without a seat but worked. it has a nice tight fitting lid so you can seal it off and dump it later if your in a parking lot or some place inappropriate to dump it.

I like the on the go active potty by fisher price. It comes with a carrying case (looks like a narrow messenger bag). Great for road trips and shopping (when you don't want your child to sit on a nasty public restroom's toilet).
Cheap too and you can use the 4 gallon trashbags - comes with 5 of them to start).

We have a portable 'Potette' we have used it everywhere - I love it to bits and the kids are very comfortable using it as well, it's by Tommy Tippee - I'll try and find a link for you.

Another Bjorn user here. It's saved our bacon several times (DD is super picky about public bathrooms and would rather hold it than go in grody one).

I keep a potty in the car that is similar to the bjorn little potty and the ikea one. I came across these potties at a $1 store and bought several of them a couple of years ago. I keep an old towel in the car for the potty to sit on in case of splashing, etc. I also keep wipes in the car to clean it out. If one of the kids has to poop, I put a wipe in the bottom of the potty first to make it easier to dump and clean.

I like the potette that I got at babies r us for the longer trips over the bjorn since there is little cleanup required. A lot of times there would be no place to clean out the bjorn. The potette is a little of a bummer though with the waste it creates with the plastic bag with soaker and all.

Great idea!

We use our Bjorn potty as well. We have the regular one though, not the "Little" one. We had several pottys before this one, and this one is so much better. Very comfortable and easy to clean.

Well, I just gotback from the store. We got the Baby Bjorn. It looked the least messy of the other kinds. They didn't have any travel ones though, just the bags for it...huh? We'll have to see how it goes, I'll let you know!
