Camelbak or Sigg bottles? Which do you prefer?

So, I want to buy everybody in our family a reusable water bottle. I'm thinking of either the BPA-free Camelbaks... or the supposedly non-leaching SIGG ones.

If you have either? What do you like/dislike about it?

If you have another product you love, please let me know.

Thanks!

My best friend has both and loves both; however she has noticed that if/when she leaves water in her Sigg type bottle that it does start tasting metallic after a few days. Maybe it's a good reminder to dump it out and start fresh...? lol

Thanks Chelsie. I'm lazy, so that's good to know!

lol You're welcome! I don't even have kids yet and it's hard for me to remember to clean out my water bottles... I usually wait til they start to smell funky-guess that might be sooner rather than later w/the metal ones lol

My daughters take water in their Sigg bottles to school in their lunch. My older daughter complains that the water tastes like dishwater by the time she gets to it. I don't know if it is only when I send the tap water, or if this happens when I send spring water too. She usually asks that I send milk or juice. In my Sigg bottle, it's fine, even if I don't empty the water out for awhile, so I don't know. Maybe because I washed hers in the dishwasher a few times. My younger daughter doesn't complain, she is fine with it, and my older daughter is very picky, so maybe that's part of it too.

We just got a bunch of 24oz insulated polar bottles on sale through bike nashbar. They are safe like the camel backs & alot cheeper.

Camelbacks are very nice, I had a few while I was in the military and they were issued for free when we went to the desert. But, they are hard to clean, ie the tubing and everything. I feel like they must become a breeding ground for bacteria very quickly and the bottle and tubing parts probably need to be changed out every few months, which might get pricey. They're great for hands-free convenience. I hope that's what you're referring too anyway, those backpack type camelbacks?

We recently bought Siggs and really like them. The "sports ca one is kind of hard to use because you have to kind of push your lips down on it, the twist off cap with the loop in it (standard) has to be twisted a number of times and then the mouth hole is kind of wide for me, so its kind of a pain at the gym because I end up nearly falling off the treadmilll messing with twisting the cap on and off, then slop the water all over me when i try to drink from it. The kids caps are the best, I would love one for my own Sigg. the kids bottles are the best all-around, cute designs, I get lots of compliments on it, my son loves it.

Ours are "enviroproducts" 32oz. stainless steel bottles. We bought them at our local health food store because A: Sigg bottles have a coating inside, and B: these were only $12.00 a piece. No metallic taste. And they're big. We're big drinkers.

I like the ThinkSport insulated stainless steel bottles. The even have a junior sized one that my not quite 4 year old can open by herself. The Camelbak's are okay but honestly, I need something insulated since it's 8:00 p.m. and still 90F outside. (And it's only May! I really wanted to like the Sigg bottles but I don't like the opening size (it's too small to fill with ice and I personally prefer a larger opening) and it's not insulated. The polar bottles are great for morning garden time because you don't have to use your hands to open the bottle but my number 1 favorite is the ThinkSport. (We've also tried Thermos, Nalgene's new BPA-free line, and Klean Kanteen. If you want more details do a search for water bottle showdown on my blog.)

HTH!

I also tried an Oggi that is similar to Sigg and had the same feelings as zmom about the opening. However, it is more affordable than Sigg...
