Did you see what was on Oprah yesterday?? "Outrageous Medical Mistakes"
If yes, what do you think about what that couple with twins said about labor? That woman was so paraniod it was anbelievable!! She was describing when she went into labor, and how her water broke and she was screaming and they rushed to the hospital and she was insisting on C-section b/c she read somewhere that when your water breaks you HAVE to have a C-section within 24 hours!!! I thought I was gonna pass out!! Considering how many people watch Oprah I was terrified!! Where did she read such a crap??! I was so mad that she said such thing on TV! Now so many women will be panicking and insisting on C-section just because their water has broke!
I could not believe how paranioed that couple was! I know - it is sad what happen to their child, but it does not change the fact about what she said there!
Anyway - I was shocked to see what has happened to all those people!! I am so sorry for them!! I hate hospitals and medical system already, and this made it even worse.
Isn't that horrible?

Yes! My dh and I were absolutely appalled!

I was in disbelief when she said, "And I had to give birth to my babies vaginally !" Ugh. How exactly did she think babies were born? If c-sections were the norm, human civilization would have died out looooonnngg ago. :

Here is a woman who is in her early forties (higher risk), using fertility drugs (higher risk) and having pre-term labor (extremely high risk) and she wants to blame the hospital for all of her son's medical conditions?

When she said that "all the books she read" said that she needed a c-section right away after her water broke, I almost choked...Dh yelled at the tv, "If you read just one birth book you'd know that wasn't true!".

Oh, and then her comment about the "hospital being the safest place" for a laboring mother... uff-da.

Don't they interview these folks just a little bit to make sure their guests aren't spewing incorrect information? Perhaps there was something they didn't tell us, by in my mind the doctor's did the best they could in this situation.

I cried. Poor child. I had to turn it off after that.

It was very sad! However, I have to admit I had a hospital birh and when my water broke they were all telling me the same thing. I had a horrible experience and am trying to get the word out about the hopsitals and doctors of the area!

I did have compassion for these people. But, I do agree with you all in the fact that she was misinformed. Maybe she just wathed "A Baby Story" a bit too much. That show kinda scares me sometimes.

Darn it, I really wanted to watch that show. It sounds like it was as bad as I thought it would be. Anyway, does anyone mind sharing what happened to the couple's baby?

Oprah has really disappointed me lately. She tends to show only one side of the story (the sensational side) so I'm not watching her as much. The firstborn twin has sever cerebral palsy and is blind and totally disabled, very sad.

Well, the thing is that they never really said WHY the baby was like that! Because she had a vaginal birth? Give me a break? There was somthing missing in that lady's story.....it did not seem right, did it?

Siddie I agree with you. She used to be different - more spiritual - or so it seemed. Maybe the network is pressuring her - but I can't imagine she was hurting for ratings. I get tired of her egocentric statements all the time too - and does she need to be on EVERY cover of her magazine??? Maybe if I made $60 million a year I would be egocentric too...who knows...maybe I am just jealous

Okay, I'm a little embarrassed to mention this because I watch about 5 hours of television TOTAL per week, but...

I happened to catch an intro to the Montel Williams show two days ago and the same couple was on their show. They actually went into more detail than they did on Oprah.

An important piece missing from the O show was that the drs. ran a test on Saturday morning (a day after she went into labor), but through miscommunication/mismanagement, the test results never made it to the right doctor. This test said that either the babies be delivered immediately or they should continue to test and monitor very closely. Instead of delivering by c-sec, they chose to monitor, but it was only intermittent monitoring. Sounds like this test was an important piece of their lawsuit against the hospital.

I agree, I mean obviously I felt sorry for the lady & what happened, but she was so uneducated that it was insane! And like mentioned above they never really said what had happened to the boy, I personally feel that he was probably that way before she even went into labor, but its obvious that they weren't telling the whole story.
