Nursing in the movie theatre

Today me and my husband went to see the new Narnia movie. Well we couldn't find anyone to watch our daughter, so we took her with us. After all, I had the perfect solution for her if she got upset; my milkies. lol. She just turned 1 so I was a little apprehensive, but if she needed it, she needed it and no one was goign to stop me from feeding her to calm her down. She was good for the whole movie, just sitting on my husband's lap watching the movie too, just a few giggles here and there. I guess the big people on the screen amused her. But towards the end, she got a little fussy so I lifted my shirt a little and pull my breast out for her and she was all better. The frontly diagonally from me gave me a dirty look but didn't say anything. I was so prepared to pull out my breastfeeding law card and show him but I didn't have to. You couldn't even see any of my breast and the movie theatre is dark anyway. LOL. But no one else seemed to mind.

I'm proud of myself.

good for you!

Good job! What else did they want you to do - the theatre won't allow you to bring in drinks!

My DH and I used to really enjoy going to the movies when our children were bfing. It's so dark that if they got fussy I could just pop them on. I'm surprised someone even noticed what you were doing.

Honestly they may have just given you a dirty look for having a little kid in the movie theater and not necessarily for bfing.

I have to admit that dh and I get to go out on a real date night about twice a year and I swear each time we end up at the movies and there's ALWAYS someone with a baby behind us. Even if the baby doesn't hardly make a peep it bothers me because it still makes me think of my own kiddos when I am trying to just enjoy my time with dh and take a break for a change, kwim?

But really, that's kind of your issue, isn't it? Unless the child is disruptive, it makes no sense to get upset. Going to the movies with my nursing baby was my break, and, really, if someone was bothered by the mere presence of a baby (or even by that baby nursing), my response would be to stuff it.

Yeah that. And, I thought Narnia was a kid movie. Maybe not an infant movie per se, but in my experience babies make way less noise than toddlers and even older kids. Unless they are crying but we all know the boobie usually relieves crying very quickly.

Haha, thanks for all the responses. My husband was getting a little nervous because he thought someone might say something but I told him that it was my right to have my child there and to nurse her.

When Lord of the Rings came out my older 2 ( who were 12 & 9) really really wanted to see it. Nathan was only a few months old and I think he comfort nursed the whole movie. I think my kids would have issue with anyone who didnt want their brother to eat ( and be quiet )
Good for you

...nursed my 4 year old at the new Indiana Jones movie the other day... Better than having her fuss (even though it was pretty awkward in those movie seats).

We've gotten through lots of movies with 'na na' to keep the LO happy!

I think I might be alone in this, but does anyone else feel like many theaters play movies just to damn loud to take kids there? It might be me; I have severely sensitive ears and everything hurts them (moderately loud music, TV, etc).

I always have to wear earplugs in movies and haven't been to one since my oldest was born - nov.05. Do your little ones handle the noise volume okay?

I saw Indy this weekend and it was SO DAMN LOUD! I was worried about the one in utero even! And he could hear it, he'd start squirming around during the really loud parts.

It never bothers me and didn't seem to bother my daughter. So I dunno. It could just be personal preference, though.

I think they play movies too loud! I do worry about my LO little ears. but we do occasionally take her to the movies.

Going to an older theater, with a crappy sound system, can help with that. At the new, all Dolby THX theatres, man, it is way too loud. But at our older semi-strip mall one, it's just about right.
