dish gardens for fun or profit?

I went to get my hair done the other day, which is ironic, since I only break down for that about twice a year. Anyway, across the mall from the salon was a small florist shop. She was selling about a half dozen really cute little glass dish gardens. They had little plants, rocks, some had a deer, or a little castle.. they cheapest one $50!

Holy moly!

I was at a thrift store today, and dp picked up a little dish, looked at me, and said, "couldn't you make this into one of those dish gardens you liked?" The man is brilliant, brilliant I say..

So, anyone made these for resale? Or a fun family hobby? Any tips? I reserved a book at the library, but am thinking I need to start somewhere..

I made one for my mom for mother's day.If you search terrariums you'll find lots of info.Like anything else, some people make it really complicated and others make them out of what they have laying around.
