Altering a pattern

I have a diaper pattern that I just love, but DS is outgrowing the rise of the mediums and is just too skinny for the large. I want to make a tall medium (or medium long, whatever you want to call it) to get his plumber's crack back under control, but every time I adjust the pattern it comes out all poofy in the front. Before it was a nice, trim fit, so clearly I don't know what I'm doing. Should I be adding more inches in the crotch of the medium pattern, add inches to the backside of the medium, shrink the wings on the large, or what?

You add 1.5 inches in the back, no the front, that makes it "poofy" in the front. Sounds like you need to add a bit of lenghts in the back, before the wings, lengthening the crotch usually does not help- at least not me.

Try googling Katrina's free fleece soaker pattern-she's got an entry on adding something to the rise. I know, it's a fleece soaker and you diaper has wings- but looking at the pattern there and seeing WHERE you could add those inches might help you.

I know the plumber's butt problem with my DS...I am currently trying to get the ottbre design shorter in the leg zone- NICE long rise by the way, just waaaaay to much legroom, poop will fly right out.
You might wanna try the ottobre pattern-looong rise.

Another option could be to make the large with crossover tabs.
