My ds will be 7 in a couple weeks. About 3 days later he has an appt with the physician, and I am going to ask questions.
Back story: When ds was 2 years 7mo he starting pottytraining bc he was holding his pee quite well and starting going on his own. We put him in underpants and the pee thing was like.... 3 days of training and he was done!! However, he starting holding poop. I offered him a diaper to go, but that didnt quite work and when I called the dr office they told me to give him some.... mineral oil to keep his bm soft so that it wouldnt hurt and that it would probably resolve once he went a few times..
Well we have tried everything since to get him to poop regularly and he just.wont.go. Sticker charts, chocolate, prizes....
He has been constipated just once this past winter otherwise he doesn't seem to have a hard time going, but he waits to go until he has poop stains in his underpants and we can smell him..... he just never goes in on his own to go. At this point it he needs a shower every time it happens.... it seems to not happen if I send him in to go every day like after school or something, but I have to make him go. Lately he has been getting irritated so I felt it was a control issue and I had a talk with him and told him that it was his body and that he needed to notice when he needed to go and just take care of it himself.... that didnt work
, we have been having regular staining every since...
we are trying sooooo hard not to get irritated but we totally do, and bc we get upset about cleaning the pants and his bottom bc its EVERYWHERE on him when this happens, I feel like he has been shamed and its making it worse!!!
Its horrible...... he is also has a dx of borderline ADD and I think he has some anxiety too, but its very situational.
Im wondering if the leakage is bowel distention from holding it which is why Im going to talk to the Dr. about it...
Any ideas? Any suggestions? I am at a total loss and trying so hard to be patient with him.... I feel so bad for him.. really....

: This is happening with my 4.5 year old, who has been potty-learned for at least 2 years. We have had a new baby which has shaken things up a bit, but I literally could have written your post. It's like, when I wipe him I can see that there is still poop inside his bum, but he doesn't feel like he has to go anymore. I was thinking a control issue too. I have tried to back off, but you are right it is frustrating.
