tooth infection - natural antibiotic?

I was just in for a cleaning, and they saw signs of an infection. I had an xray & sure enough I've got an infection in a tooth that had a root canal/crown done about 5 yrs ago. Looks like it's in the bone...ugh. I've got to go in now & have the crown taken off so the dentist can decide what to do about it.

Anyway, they wanted to put me on antibiotics, but I told them I'm breastfeeding so I won't be taking any.

Now I'm wondering what kind of natural antibiotics I should take. I'll start my grapefruit seed extract. What else? I've got colloidal silver, but I've actually never taken it & not sure how!

Any suggestions??

propolis is always good. but with a tooth infection i would take the antibiotics even while bf. i had a friends husband almost die and lose half his jaw because he had an infection and they didn't have insurance so he didn't go to the doc. ended up on life support.

Many antibiotics are safe for nursing moms to take.

For natural antibiotics, check out kellymom's page on mastitis- high doses of vitamin C and raw garlic can be very helpful, as can raw apple cider vinegar.

The antibiotic they were going to give me was pennicillin. I guess I could research that more & see if it's safe. I didn't make a big fuss over not taking them - though I would, of course, prefer a natural method. I just mentioned that I was breastfeeding and the hygenist who was there said her dr. wouldn't let her take antibiotics while breastfeeding. The dentist didn't make it seem like a big deal if I didn't take them... so I left without them!

If the dentist didn't seem like it was a big deal that you were refusing them, that would make me feel like it wasn't absolutely imperative, and I also would want to just do the natural stuff, but that is just me. Maybe you could ask them for signs to watch for that it is getting worse, and try the natural stuff first. I would be taking lots of SA.

It's a forum, but don't post there - it's for health professionals only ( so cool that it's available to all of us though). Google about the complications of this situation and inform yourself about the risks involved with not treating via conventional medicine.
