Help with getting librivox files to work?

I recently downloaded some audio books from www.librivox.org. The first one I'm trying to listen to is not working properly, and I'm trying to figure out what's going on with it. I don't know enough about tech stuff to know if it's an obvious problem or a random glitch.

So, I'm trying to listen to The Scarlet Letter. I downloaded the zip file of the whole book, then unzipped it. On my computer, Windows Media Player will play some of the files, and either stops responding or does nothing when I push play with others. Quicktime seems to have no problem playing any files. My mp3 player (RCA) can't read some of the files, and when it does read a file, it keeps on "skipping" -- every 5-10 seconds, the audio blips out.

I tried out another book, and it does all of the same stuff, so I'm guessing it's not a problem with Librivox's files.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I'm about half not there on this stuff, but if windows media file doesn't accept it, can you try something else to play it on like divX? Can you play it on another player like the div I just mentioned or on quicktime? Both of these latter options have free downloads as trials and possibly free dl's in general.

Just to double check-are you having zip and unzip problems at all? Is this something you can convert to winrar and then use in rar?

I'm not well versed at all on this stuff, but if it is a book or movie or song I want on line, I'm suddenly a net tech and can make it work. kwim? I tend to find a way to make it work.

Oh, and sometimes you have most components already installed but just need a certain codex or codecd or somesuch code something or other for your computer to recognize the "language". Those are also free dl's that I maybe can help a bit w/at least finding on line for free.

It is working in Quicktime -- it seems to work when all else fails. But that's on my computer, and I want to listen on my mp3 player. I know even less about it than I do about my computer.
