Is it possible she's teething already??

Dd is 7 weeks old and is suddenly drooling A LOT, sleeping way worse than she was a few days ago both day and night and spending most of her time awake crying, which is NOT like her. She has also started chewing on her hand. I can't attribute anything to my diet, as I've been eating the same (and have cut out all the triggers she had before ~ dairy, soda, caffeine, strawberries, onions, peppers and wine). She'll also wake up from a dead sleep screaming. She's eating fine (although more frequently than she was) and has plenty of wet and dirty diapers. Is it possible she's already teething?

i am not sure about the teething but all 3 of my children had lots of mucus/drool around 6-7 weekes and all 3 were miserable. it causes lots of gas and mucus poops. ben is almost 7 weeks now and it is starting to resolve finally. he is getting much happier. how is her poop?

I think it is possible but unlikely. All 3 of my older kids got their first teeth by 3 months. That is extremely early though. My 7 week old is extra mucousy right now too. I hope its not teeth. I love that toothless grin

Her poops seem to be ok. I did just feel her gums though and it seems like there's a little poky bump sticking out of one part... I really hope she doesn't cut her teeth this early!!! My boobs aren't ready for that yet...

I had the same experience with my first. Everyone told me it was too early for teething but she had two teeth by three months and the drooling subsided until she got her next teeth. So I definitely think it could be teething.

I also had an early teether. He started drooling and it was still a couple of months before the tooth poked up. I wouldn't worry about how it will affect your boobs too much though. DS only bit twice, and that happened long after he actually got the teeth, like after one year. Don't panic! it will all be okay!

Mine's 6 wks with those same symptoms-drooling alot, chewing on his arm, kinda fussy. Hasn't effected sleep though.
My mom said she's betting he'll have his first teeth at 3mnths like I did
We'll see......

Not necessarily. My DD started drooling like crazy at 2.5 months, and did it for MONTHS, but she didn't get her first tooth until she was 12 months old. I think it's possible that all babies drool at this age and that it's just a coincidence that some get teeth at the same time.

yes most def!! I didnt think it was possible but my DS has 3 teeth coming in already. He is not drooling or anything but I noticed them when he was sucking on my finger. btw hes about the same age as your baby

Um, I thinkk I posted almost this same thread on another area. My 7 wk DS started to DROOOL a lot over the last 2 weeks. And chew his hand. I have no idea why.

ok call me silly but what does drool have to do with teething??

Yeah, it is possible. Caleb is barely 10 weeks and I can see the little buggers coming through his gums... he drools... coughs... puts his hands in his mouth and can get pretty miserable...

definately possible, all of mine started teething early early early...my 2nd had his first tooth at 8 weeks!

Yep, possible... DS1 started teething at 2 months, had his first two teeth pop in at five months. DS2 just started up the drool-a-thon yesterday, and he'll be six weeks tomorrow.

as for what drooling has to do with it... when babies teethe, their bodies secrete extra enzymes in their saliva to help break down the gums. Then they drool a lot to get those enzymes all over their gums!

Thanks all. Well, we know she's teething now because now we can SEE the teeth coming in. Yikes!!
