Anyone with experience planning an art playdate? x-posted in Toddlers

Thread Starter
I recently got First Art: Art Experiences for Toddlers and Twos by MaryAnn F. Kohl out of the library. This, combined with the fact that I really need to meet some more new(-ish) SAHP's prompted me to start thinking about posting an open invitation on our local web forum to an "art playdate" for toddlers. I thought maybe 45 minutes, with two different art projects -- maybe fingerpainting and chalk? We'd limit it to about 5 kids. If it's nice we could do it outside under the gazebo and the LO's could wander in and out at will.

Has anyone done this before? Any tips?

I've never hosted one, but I've been to a few as part of a local montessori group. They were a lot of fun. Usually the kids only did the art stuff for a short time, then got interested in other things and that was fine. It was really laid back. I think having it outdoors would be a great idea too!

Have you checked out this blog - the artful parent: http://artfulparent.wordpress.com/
She hosts a toddler art group and has a lot of ideas and suggestions on there.
I'd love to do something like this too... but not sure I have the guts to jump into it. Let us know how it goes!
