Nina Hailey is here!

I didn't post here often as I was a June DDC, but came over here a few weeks ago because I knew she was going to come in May.

Things didn't go as expected. I went in Wed. night and they started cervadel, then start the pit on Thurs. morning. All day on Thursday her heart rate was doing weird things, nothing the dr. thought was urgent, but just off. I was on pit. all day Thurs. and only progressed to 2 cm. I have had EIGHT babies and been induced several times before this with no problems, so I was finding it strange that I was not making any progress at all.

The dr. came in on Thursday evening and decided to turn everything off so that I could eat and we would try again in the morning. Another dr. from the group was on call that evening when the nurse was going to do another round of Cervadel. The nurse took a long time looking at the strip of Nina's heart rate and wanted to talk with the dr. before inserting the Cervadel.

The new dr. was concerned enough to order an US. The US actually looked good, but when they tried to measure the baby's abdomen it was so large it wouldn't even fit on the screen and they couldn't get an accurate measurement. The dr. and I spoke for a LONG time and she said that we could go ahead with the induction or she could do a c-section.

I went into the pregnancy screaming from the hill tops "NO C SECTION", but my gut was telling me to do it. I listened to it. I called dh, he was home with the kids and was going to come up the next morning when things started happening. By this time it was after midnight, but he got up took a quick shower and headed up. They were waiting for him to get there and suited him up before he could even sit down and say hello to me. They took us to the OR and that was that. It went faster than I thought.

Turns out that we more likely than not avoided a should dystocia. Her head was an inch smaller than her chest. The dr. had a very difficult time getting her shoulders out with a c section.

Her glucose dropped low after birth and the neonatologist discovered a heart murmer. They took her to the NICU to get things going with her. She stayed for 4 days.

With GD the baby grows more quickly than with a normal pregnancy, including the heart. Her ventricles narrowed because of this, so she is on some heart medication right now and we have to follow up the the cardiologist in a few days.
