We also greatly limit the time we spend with people who do CIO and who circ. I'll be around them - but I want to limit our exposure to them.

ETA: I do this because I don't want my child to think those things are 'normal'. I don't want her to see another child being spanked or hear another child being left to CIO.

It's one of the few 'protective' things we plan to do.
Am I reading this right? On top of limiting your time with people who do CIO, you also limit the time you spend with people who have circumcised their boys? I understand the first one (cio), but I don't quite see why it would be necessary to limit your dd's exposure to people who circ.

LOL, I was thinking this too! It's not like it's a weekly event or something.

I would say something to your friend about it. I think if she brought it up to you she was looking for your views on what she did. I have a pretty close friend that was slapping the hands of her 2 year old and 12 month old. She told me the 12 month old was in the drop stuff off the highchair tray and whine until you pick it and then would throw it off the chair again. I told her that is a totally age appropriate thing for baby to be doing then and that when she hit him he had no idea why. All he knows is that Mama was hurting him and making him cry. And all she was traching her 2 yo to do was hit when he doesn't like what someone was doing. She was smacking him for hitting his brother. That makes no sense. She no longer hits her kids.
