Peppermint oil during pregnancy?

We have ants and lets just say my DH got happy with the peppermint oil in our kitchen... I am 39+ weeks pregnant - is it ok to inhale this essential oil during pregnancy? He did it last night when cleaning the kitchen and today I can still smell it (plus he dropped some more drops today) I finally told him to open the window and wipe the counters well because I am tired of smelling the peppermint around. I think he just dropped a few drops (he says 5 or so) in the cracks where the ants were at and added some to the vinegar and water that we clean the floor with.

Now good news is the ants are definitely leaving us

At 39 weeks it is ok.

Peppermint Oil is an emmenagogue and not recommended early in pregnancy

I'm not personally a doctor, but through all of my pregnancies, beginning in the first trimester, it was reccommended to *smell* peppermint. Ingesting it in large amts may be a different thing, but I'd imagine on the skin in small amounts (and rinsed away like in a shower) or just smelling it would be fine. If you have questions, I'd suggest calling your Dr. or midwife

I just did a search for peppermint on the same site (Wikipedia) and no where on there does it talk about it being a emmenaquque, or that it stimulates blood flow. Rather, it says that it reduces stomach cramping, reduces spasms in the intestines (intestinal spasms sometimes cause contractions), and is known to relax muscles on contact (and in a "complex form" the uterus is just that - a muscle). Just a little FYI.

You might wish to check actual sites about essential oils or aromatherapy. Anyone can edit a wikipedia article and the content is not necessarily accurate.

In bodywash it would be in highly diluted quantities and should be fine.

Issues with essential oils are nearly always referring to the pure form, undiluted and not in body care products.
