Puffy and Red eyed baby ???

When I rolled my LO over to wake him this morning, his eyes were really swollen and the crevices were red, the red part has been there for a while but the swollen lids have not. I have no idea what this is and it's really scaring me. Could it be my milk or something else?

could it just be tears? Mine cries with tears (SO heartbreaking!), so maybe he had watery eyes while sleeping?

His eye lids look really irritated.

Are they remaining puffy? Does he have any other allergic symptoms?

Don't blame your milk! Your milk is healing with antibodies and nutrients!

Is it warm where you are? maybe put a cool cloth over his eyes to sooth them?

poor guy!

One eye or two?

I bet you anything its a plugged tear duct, which is totally normal.
Below is a link how to treat.
Take warm wash cloth and wipe several times a day. Massage the eye by the inner corner (by nose) every time you diaper change (to help you remember), or as often as you think of it.
it will go away in a day or two.

It looks horrible, i know, esp if it gets crusty yellow, but my LO has already gotten 3 of them.

was there any discharge? if so, could b an infected clogged tear duct. might also be conjunctivitis, an eye infection. do you have a pedi to call? my girls both had blocked infected tear ducts and we got a presciption for antibiotic eye ointment. anyway, squirt breastmilk in his eyes at every feeding - will help no matter what.

My little one had quite yellow crusty discharge for a day or two with her plugs. Even her eye got stuck. it was constant and disgusting and horrible red all around her eye.

That does not mean there is an infection. it went away quickly. yes i also agree putting breastmilk in the eye is a good idea.

but don't give antibiotics unles you're sure its an infection, meanign it lasts longer than a day or two, and even then it might not be an infection.

all that to say don't worry too much if there's lots of yellow gunk.

There is was no gunk and the swelling has went down, the lids are still kind of crusty and red . Wooo being a mother can be so overwhelming, I was worried about his eye so much this morning I almost forgot to change his diaper geeeeeeeesh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Breastmilk is an awesome cure-all!! I put it on everything from diaper rash to gunky eyes and the antibacterial properties in it work wonders. That is also why once pumped it can sit on the counter for hours as opposed to formula. for breastmilk!!

I'm glad it's looking better!

That one is actually possible! My DD had cradle cap off and on for a long time, like 18 months and, yes, she would get it in her eyebrows, too. I noticed a tiny bit in DS's eyebrows a few weeks ago, but when I cut way back on dairy, it went away. (And now I'm wondering if DD's cradle cap was a reaction to dairy in my milk... She spit up a lot, too.)

Definitely squirt the eyes with breastmilk. That has worked wonders in this house with eye infections and pink eye-with infants, toddlers and even dh. Seriously.
