I can't find a sink attachment for my birth pool!

I ordered all the parts I was supposed to from Dr. Foster's & Smith to hook up a hose to our sink for our fishy pool to fill/drain...NONE of the freaking parts fit our sink...so I went back and ordered a few more- THEY don't fit. What to do?

Unscrew the tip of your faucet and take it with you to Home Depot, Lowes, Ace or some place like that. Take the attachment deal too. Tell them you are trying to hook up a hose to your faucet and this is the part it needs to attach to. They will have little like $3 pieces that you can purchase that screw onto the tap to make the attacher things go on. We have this super "fancy" faucet and had to buy 2 different parts to make the hose screw on, but it works. The guy at the store told us it was a good thing we had brought in our faucet piece so he could make sure the pieces would attach. Its also how he knew we needed 2 pieces instead of one.

Anyhow - I hope that makes sense!

Do you have the white adapter for the Python? I couldn't get it to fit either until I realized it was actually two pieces. I unscrewed the inner piece, which made the opening bigger, and then it fit on my faucet.

If all else fails, I second going to the hardware store. Take the drain and fill piece and the pieces from your sink.

Treeof3, do you have one of those faucets that also acts like a sprayer? The kind you can pull out? We have one and are wanting to install a new one. We think the old one will work with the fill-n-drain, but the new one won't.

Just curious.

Faucet adapters are standard (all the same). So, the parts you see in this photo (Parts E, F, and G) are all the same thing, just made from different materials (brass or plastic) or adjustable (E) for the hose, but the threads where they attach to your faucet are all the same.

So, the first question is what type of faucet do you have? It sounds to me like you just have not removed a part (screen, washer, etc.) that needs to come out in order to attach the adapter. Someone here had this very problem several months ago and you can see the photos which helped them solve it here in post #104.

I'm having issue with this too. We need to attach to the sink in our bathroom and it doesn't have any threads to screw anything onto it. I'm thinking we're going to have to buy all new faucets.

Last time we used the sink in our kitchen down stairs, but the mw wants me to birth on the same floor of the house that I'll be staying in afterwards due to how weak momma's (I) get after birth and needing to go up/down stairs, etc.

It really isn't a trouble to hook it up to a sink up or down a level -- I've done that lots of times. In fact it makes it way easier to drain. You usually just need to unhook it and gravity does the rest. Hoses are cheap this time of year. I just bought a bunch of hoses at the grocery store for my birth pool rentals for $7 apiece.

Unless it some very unusually-shaped faucet, the bathroom sinks are usually the easiest to connect to!

You're not connecting the faucet adapter "onto" something - it actually goes inside the faucet - the threads are inside. In other words, the adapter is the "male" piece and the faucet itself (when unscrewed and opened) is the "female" piece.

Did you look at the photos in the above post #104 link? That is a very typical bathroom faucet.

Oh good - pictures!

Ok, so you have the slightly different style of faucet. It appears that the black rubber ring washer is still inside the faucet in the photo. There are three parts that must be removed - the faucet tip (you did) the screen (you did) and the washer. If you pull that out, you can look (or feel) to see if there are threads inside (not the external threads that the tip screws onto) that the adapter would screw into. See the photos from post #104 to see what the black rubber washer ring looks like.

If that doesn't work, then you should take your faucet adapter to Home Depot's bathroom faucet section and show the man the type of faucet you have, and he can get you the right adapter, if there is a different one needed. Take along your Python pump also, but attaching the Python pump is the same connection as attaching a hose, so he should understand what you are trying to do. Let me know what happens!

ETA: I have four (!) bathroom sinks, and one of them is the style like yours. Whe I unscrewed and removed the tip, screen and washer, the only threads are external like in your photo. I was actually going to Home Depot this morning for another reason, so I'll take my adapter and Python with me and see what I can find out too.

P.S. Do you have another sink (kitchen or bathroom) that has the standard type of threads like in the photos that you could use?

I went to Lowes and stumped the plumbing guy for like 45 minutes, lol. He finally was able to find a piece that kind of jams onto the faucet, not screws on. Apparantly my faucet is THE only one that no adaptor will fit.

Works fine!

It is the "H" Hose Adapter 9/16" I.D. Clamp-On (Universal)
Made by Danco #36132B

HTH!

I had trouble too, until the kid helping me in Home Depot figured out that what we needed was the adapter for a portable dishwasher--that's how it was labeled, I think, and it was perfect. Try asking for that instead of about hooking up a garden hose...

Good, I'm glad you got it fixed!

Could you do me a favor? Would you post a picture of the part with its paper package next to it and also a photo of it attached to your faucet?

I was able to get the right adapter to fit the style of faucet you have, (mine is also made by Danco) and I would like to add a post to the Birth Pool Resources thread that will consolidate the photos of the two types of adapters for the two different types of faucets.

I'm going to take some photos of the one I got to put into the post when I make it, but yours would be useful too since it is the adjustable-clamp style one.

That is what I was given too.

For these style of faucets (with only external threading) there is an adapter that is made for attaching a hose that goes to a portable dishwasher, hence why it was called "dishwasher adapter." The good thing is that the connector end of the adapter for a portable dishwasher hose, an aquarium or rv hose, or a regular garden hose are all the same, and that is why it works.

I'm going to go take some pictures!

I will definitely post some pics, but we are about to leave for the weekend, so it won't be until we get back. Thanks for all your help!

Here's a link to the post I put in the Birth Pool Resources thread with directions and photos for both types of faucets - ones with internal and external threads.

Hopefully this will help some people out!
