Snappy comebacks for "I hope you're not one of those Breastfeeding Nazis!" (Long!) - Page 2

I think you handled it very well, even though you only handled the "breastfeeding zelot with a negative connotation" aspect of what she said, and you didn't address the innapropriateness of the word "Nazi" at all.

OP here...

Ruthla, you're right! I didn't address the Nazi aspect of the comment at all, which is what I felt badly about. I so shocked by her use of such an ugly term that I didn't know how to respond tactfully. I dropped the ball, totally.

FWIW, the lady in question is a retired history teacher, so she, of all people, should understand the implications of the word she used.

If there is a next time, I will be better prepared to respond gracefully but firmly, whilst running a very snarky inner-dialogue!

If you want to continue with saracasm: Why? Are you one of those formula feeding Nazis?

Or, I could just go on a rant about how the Nazis murdered my grandfather.

(Keeping in mind that this is just to provide some pleasure at the *thought* of saying it.)
"No, I've never committed genocide by feeding my children, do you know someone who has?!? :"

"There are people who use breastfeeding to cause the suffering and deaths of millions in a deliberate attempt to eradicate their people and culture from the world??? : How DARE you even THINK I would do such a thing!"

Really though, my first reaction to her little "breastfeeding nazis" comment would've been:
"You're f*ing kidding me, right? You don't seriously believe that BS." (Yeah, I do recognize I'd have to quickly explain I meant about breastfeeding advocates being "nazis" not about people having trouble breastfeeding.)

I'm flabbergasted that the conversationlasted long enough for her to get all that info out. I generally try very hard to be balanced in my response to implications that supporting breastfeeding is zealotry, but the Nazi term makes me sick and I can't let it go. And I have responded poorly in the past...

Good response.

I was visiting my MIL's cousin who has two and is due with twins. They asked what I was doing and when I mentioned my LLL work and our breastfeeding outreach, MIL's cousin's DH said "Oh, you're one of those breastfeeding nazis?" I laughed since I felt he meant it in jest and said "Yes and proud of it." with a big ol smile. They all gave me a big smile too. In conversation, I found they are all very pro-BFing and she's worried about nursing her twins. I offered to get her some info together and she looked relieved to have someone around to help.
