When I eat a lot of dairy, DS gets gassy, fussy, and has mucousy poop. I've cut way back, but it seems that I can still eat things with a sprinkling of cheese without bothering him. I had a blue cheese burger two nights ago with no problems.

One thing I can say that doesn't bother him is onions. I had so many onions for supper the other night that my pee smelled like onion the next day , but he was fine.

I have eliminated almost everything from my diet! Dairy, wheat, soy, eggs, nuts, beans and any veggie that may cause gas. He was crying 2-3 hours a day on a good day. It has made a huge difference. now i just have to figure out what it was that was bothering him. It has been over a month since i have eaten any of those things, I'M STARVING!:

http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns...nsitivity.html

kellymom.com is an excellent breastfeeding resource online...above find a link to the discussion about mom's diet and how it might affect baby--very useful info.

also, my baby is gassy, is this caused by something in my diet?

I like this excerpt from the gassy section:
Quote:
The list of foods that "might cause gas" is practically endless, and moms who try to avoid all these foods will (needlessly) have a *very* limited diet. Formula-feeding moms blame it on a chill, a draft, the formula type, the formula being too hot or cold, baby being overdressed, underdressed, jostled too much, etc. Formula-feeding moms never think it was what the cow ate the day she was milked, months ago!
Right--the cows that make the milk that formula is made from aren't often blamed for a gassy baby!

I've been off of gluten, dairy, and canola for a long time for DS1, who reacts to all of those. I went off soy for myself, as it gives me problems (as does dairy it turns out). I added corn to the list because it's such a common issue and I wanted to find out what Raphael's "baseline" is from the beginning.

I think there's still something else, though, because his "baby acne" looks like windburn on his cheeks, he has green poop no matter how much I block-feed (I have a tendency toward oversupply), and a few other things. Could be eggs; those are a common issue.

They aren't often enough, IMO... a really surprising number of kids react to dairy if you actually try taking it out of their diet. I'm increasingly coming to the conclusion that almost everyone is healthier without dairy. :-/ Which sucks, since there is NO substitute for cheese. Anything else, I can tell you how to get around, but cheese is just its own thing.

I can't have any dairy or my LO reacts badly and am on an anti-candida diet so I can't have: sugar, fruit, gluten, yeast, vinegar, mushrooms, peanuts, pistachios, coffee, black tea, alcohol, processed or smoked meat, processed or aged cheese... and limit rice and potatoes ... I figure it kills the yeast by starving you to death! I'm losing about 1.5 lbs every other day on this diet.

The "up" side to the diet is it sure has increased my water intake... I'm drinking 2-3L a day because I'm soooooo hungry and have nothing to eat so I just drink so I feel full for a little while.

I eat carb free(No bread, grains, fruit, sugar, etc), so similar diet, I found snacking on almonds and walnuts help. I've had to cut out chocolate as well, sigh my only favorite food of all time. DS reacts horribly to it.

I haven't had my awesome jello pie recipe for a month because of the yogurt it needs.

There's soy and rice-based yogurts that might work in your recipe. If you post it, I might have other ideas too.

Thanks Monica, but I've already tried different substitutes - it just doesn't turn out the same- it is still wonderful but either the taste or texture is off and I have weird food fetish of sorts, if the texture is off it turns me off. My sil prepares it dairy-free because her kids can't have dairy... or much of anything really.

Here's the oh-so-easy jello pie recipe just in case anyone wants it... :
  • 1 small package of jello
  • 2 6 oz containers of yogurt
  • 1 small tub of whipped cream
  • 1 graham cracker crust
Directions:
Boil 1/4 cup of water, disolve jello package in water. Stir in yogart, mix well. Fold in whip cream. Place mixture in crust, put in fridge to chill for 1 hour.
My favorite flavors are: orange, lime and lemon. My husband enjoys peach and orange the most. I think the next flavor he wants to try is raspberry.
It can also be prepared sugar-free and dairy-free.

Not in your DDC but this thread caught my eye. In the Breastfeeding Challenges forum there is a long thread of other moms who are on elimination diets. I'll see if I can dig up the link. Here it is: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=760232 It's a little dead right now but I'm sure if you post it will get revived again.

Also I totally feel your pain. I ended up having to go on a total elimination diet when my dd was about 4 mos old due to all her issues. It was really really really hard and still is (she's 10 mos now). The upside is that I've lost 40 lbs. Anyways I was able to figure out that dd is allergic to corn, dairy, eggs, wheat, oats, and a handful of other things. She has outgrown the oat allergy but we are still battling the other ones and I am still avoiding them all.

There are some great cook books out there for people avoiding certain foods. The one I have and love is called the Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook and the recipes are all dairy, soy, egg, wheat, peanut, and tree nut free.

I had to eliminate all dairy from my diet due to green mucousy poops. I rarely eat dairy anyway (we lean towards a vegan diet) but that little I was intaking really bothered her.

Also no beans or brassicas right now. But I can do onions and peppers which I couldn't do with my other kids.

I have had to cut WAY back on dairy but can still eat some...

Since DD1 had/has horrible dairy allergies I'm avoiding dairy with DD2. I have occasionally had a serving or two and notice DD2 gets fussier and gassier.

She also gets pretty gassy when I eat beans and broccoli, so I'm avoiding those in large quantities.

I find it pretty easy for me to avoid foods since I had to go on a strict elimination diet with DD1.

we figured it out!

ok first off soy is def an issue for her. i was of it 2 weeks andher breathing got so much better (but she stil had the red ring, green mucusy poos and fussy) i ate some soy last night to see what would happen and we didn't sleep last night b/c she was so stuffy andcouldn't breathe. shes still that way today, i hope it doesnt take 2 more weeks to leave her again

but like i said she still had the green poo, red ring and super fussy so i figured shes allergic to soemthing else. well i went to LLL and they saw her fussiness and saw me trying to nurse her which was me basically hosing her down, poor thing and told me its probably my over active letdown and over abundant supply causing all this.shes not getting hind milk ever and gaining weight super fast b/c shes drinking way too much b/c i let downso crazily..yes i made up a word.
so.. im block feeding her. its kinda funny. basically all day long each kid is asigned a breast e stays on the left all day long and k on the right. then at night i switch so its about 12 hours on each breast for them both. thats way they both get the hind milk (k was even having tummy issues from my milk) and now no more tummy issues for k, ehas normal poo,no red ring and nowhere near as fussy!! so i think those are her 2 issues and i feel so great we are working on them!
