cloth produce bags.

How do this work at the grocery store? Do you take the produce out of the bag or do they do a tare weight with an empty bag and then you place your produce already in a bag on the scale?
Obviously, I'm interested in them, but I'm just curious as to how it works.

To save time and money, I'd rather just reuse plastic ones over and over again.

My co-op would do the weight of just the fruit and take the time for emptying and refilling, but at the grocery store what a pain in the butt that would be (to them.)

i don't use the bags unless i'm at my co op getting bulk food items. sometimes i will buy fruit IN bags, like a big bag of organic apples. but otherwise, i just buy say 3 peaches and then weigh them and have them put in my bag.

I've found that the tare is pretty minimal, so sometimes I don't worry about it. A couple of my produce bags do have the tare printed on the tag, so I can just tell them at the checkout what the tare is.

Otherwise, you can weigh the bag before filling it & you'll know the tare.

Someone suggested on another post to use mesh laundry bags. The ones for delicates. I have been using those and they work great and don't weigh enough to bother zero out the scale. Plus the employees can see what's in them too.

I'm a cashier and if people come thru using cloth bags, I take the produce out.

Most people who come thru my line, usually don't put the produce in the bag until after its rung in.
