AIO questions, please help

My baby came 6 wks early so I did not get a chance to get my diapers done before she came, she is now 15 wks old. I have been trying to get my AIOs to work and they are all leaking. I am trying to use a flannel inner, 4 layer terry soaker, PUL and a cotton outer layer. I am also top stiching them and using Aplix tape. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I really want to get a right and get her into them full time. Please help me in anyway possible I am sick of getting it wrong!

you need an inner layer that doesn't soak up stuff like fleece. With a cotton outer and a flannel inner they're going to wick like crazy.

I would get rid of the cotton outer layer. I know it looks cute, but I just couldn't get mine to work until i got stopped using one.

Also--I learned a lot by making some fitted dipes first (to use w/wraps). By the time I started making AIO's I had a really good sense of absorbancy, stitching, elasticity, etc. Just a thought.

What kind of thread are you using. I made the mistake of using cotton thread on a soaker once, and that was enough to wick the urine.

The only way I've ever been able to use a cotton outer over PUL is by binding with fold over elastic - the FOE tends to repel liquid, so as long as you use polyester thread it doesn't wick. Turning and topstitching with a cotton outer, though, almost always wicks, IME. Are you washing them on hot and running them through a hot dryer before using? You also need to heat the PUL so the holes from the stitching get a chance to reseal.

Yeah, cotton outer is a bad, bad thing. Esp if you have a heavy wetter. Even with FOE edging instead of T&T I had major wicking, and yes, I was changing often enough Also, you might need more absorbancy in your diaper. Try adding a doubler. At this point, if the diapers fit, I would just put a cover over them so you can still use them. A quick, cheap option is the Katrina's Quick Soaker http://katrinassqs.blogspot.com/
