help! need natural deoderant options!

ones that work! LOL

I am addicted to my Dove, but after seeing my hair analysis and that there was aluminum present : I'd like to limit my exposure to it. I've tried Trader Joes, and peeee-ewwww. Short of buying one of each deoderant the next time I'm at Whole Foods, what should I try?

I am right there with you...

My Dove (unscented, of course!) deodorant really stands out it my medicine cabinet as it is the only product that I have that isn't made with organic ingredients.

I have tried ALL the other natural deodorants.

I think the problem is that I like the antiperspirant effect :

I am very uneasy about the idea of blocking sweat, I mean, it's happening for a reason...

I just feel so gross and slimy with the natural ones. They smell nice. So then I smell like lemon grass BO and I feel slimy... GROSS!!

I've tried wiping my pits with alcohol and then using baking soda... didn't work and I was flaking off bits of baking soda all day.

I've cut down to using Dove a few times per week but I have found no good replacement. Honestly, I don't believe that one exists.

getting over the anti-perspirant effect is a tricky thing when switching to all natural for sure!
I think I've tried nearly all the natural ones too. Currently I'm using Common Sense brand Vetiver & Spice flavor and have also tried their Lady Fern one too. I think it's been about 3 or maybe 4 yrs w/this brand so I guess I like it lol
My best friend uses the salt crystal but in a pump spray which I want to try cuz it doesn't have alcohol which burns a bit on shave the pits day, but other than that it's great!
Hope you find something you like soon!!
Cheers,
Chelsie

I like the Tom's Deodorant but I've been thinking about another option I just learned about- combining baking soda and arrowroot powder and if you want to be able to apply it easily mix in melted coconut oil and essential oil if desired.

First of all, quit using any soap on your pits as it changes the ph of your skin to allow bacteria to grow easily and it actually causes stinkiness.

I have tried many natural deoderants and now just use colloidal silver in a spray bottle. Works perfectly unless I wear synthetic clothes, then it doesn't work as well.

I use Funk Butter -- http://www.oyinhandmade.com I love the stuff and its name!

I don't wear any deodorant. I don't smell so why would I. When I am biking or walking on a hot day I sweat. We're supposed to sweat. It's the best natural option!

Keep in mind that there will be a few days of "detox" as you wean off commercial deodorants and antiperspirants. Whatever natural alternative you choose, reappply it several times a day for the first few days to keep stink at bay.

That being said, I use alcohol in a spray bottle. Have for years. The alcohol kills the bacteria that causes odor. It's simple and very effective.

I put a few drops of essential oils (lavender, tea tree, patchouli, lemongrass) in a spray bottle, fill with alcohol and I spritz after my shower in the morning. Keeps me stink free all day. And, I live in Phoenix - it's HOT and I'm a sweaty, stinky gal and this works great. I generally only have to spritz once in the morning but, if it's a particularly hot, active day, I may need to spritz again. I do carry a small travel size with me in case I need to freshen up but, I rarely use it.

Also, I've found that with time, my pits have stopped sweating nearly as much. I was at a soccer game for an hour yesterday - it was over 100 degrees and by the end of the game, I was super sweaty everywhere but, my pits weren't so bad. I had a wet mark on my back but, although my pits were a bit damp, I didn't get wet pit marks. In fact, I never get wet pit marks anymore.

I can't say enough about the ease and effectiveness of alcohol. I do use soap (I make my own) so I wash my pits with soap and after I'm dried off, I give them a spritz and I'm good to go. Plus, it smells good! Oh and someone mentioned the sting factor with alcohol on fresh shaved pits. I have to say, it's not something I even notice anymore. It really doesn't sting that bad - maybe a tiny bit but, it's not really even anything I think about but, if it stings you, just zap it with your hair dryer for a second or two. Once it's dry, the sting is gone.

I tried all the other stuff - coconut oil, scrubbing with baking soda, making a paste, using just baking soda etc.... and for me, by far the easiest and most effective is to just spritz with alcohol - no fuss, no muss.

There's a crystal one that my DH uses. It's called Crystal Stick Body Deodorant. One stick lasts a year of daily use.

I use the crystal and layer Earth Science unscented lichen deodorant on top.

Tom's of Maine is working pretty well. Thanks everyone!

I've tried just cleaning with alcohol & using baking soda, I've tried Tom's, and one other natural brand...I forget. But I bought Jason's Tea tree deoderant, and it works!! It's super humid today & I just ran my vacuum. I was sweating quite a bit, and I just checked. I don't stink.

I just had a stange idea. I was just reading the bac out label and it says safe for skin. It kills bacteria so I wonder if maybe diluted with water it would work with out tearing up your pits

I will be the guinne pig and report back. Now I have a good reason to vacumm

Ok I took a spray bottle put 1/2 water, 1/2 bac-out and a few drops of lemon balm EO. Then I washed my pits with soap and water and even wiped with alcohol. I sprayed with my new concoction.

I did some general cleaning and a very good vacumming (the kind that really makes ya sweat.)

It failed miserably and I smell like a farm animal.

I've used Tom's of Maine for years and always been happy with it. I love Calendula and Lavender the best. I seriously want to sniff my armpits all the time! lol I was a total antiperspirant (Secret Platinum) junkie before that. I was totally scared to switch, but if anything I feel like I get less sweating/icky now. I've never tried anything else though since the Tom's has worked for me. The unscented though usually craps out on me pretty quick, which sucks because it is so cheap at Trader Joe's.

Dr. Haushka! (Am I spelling that right?) It's $20, but will last for 3 months or so. I love it.

Oh, great to read your experience with this.

I'm trying to get off of antiperspirants all together, and have rarely been using any for a couple of months. But! I have been trying everything I can and it's all been full of FAIL.
Baking soda, coconut oil, shaving (which was WAY WAY worse for me than keeping them unshaved, which has been what I have done for over 10 years now, primarily), Tea Tree Oil, blah blah blah.

And not only was I sweaty, I don't mind that, I was SMELLY. And I don't mean just a little bit of body smell. No. It was the smell of a tech support call center bad (if you've ever worked in one like me... *shudder*)

The only thing I have found that works is my alcohol based body spray. Even right after I tried shaving again, it stung a little, but heck, I get my eyebrows waxed so that was nothing.
I was trying to figure out how to use alcohol, if I should just use it alone or what.
I will definitely get a large and travel sized spritz bottle and some EOs. Maybe add a drop of tea tree in, and do bergamot and lavender and smell like Earl Grey... Oh, that would be nice

I ordered 6 sticks of the Calendula Tom's of Maine from Amazon for $26 and got free shipping. Just thought I'd share in case others want to buy it in bulk and save money. I paid $7.38 for ONE at my expensive local HFS.

This may be a silly question, but is the alcohol just isoprophl that you can buy at any store?

Thanks.

I just started using Pit Putty a few weeks ago and LOVE it. It kind of smells like cloves when I just put it on, but that smell goes away and I don't get any odor with it. All others that I've tried have failed. I haven't tried Dr. Haushka's though.

Need to try the alcohol spritz technique. I'm always on the never-ending search for a natural deordorant that actually works for me. I've been using the Kiss my face roll-ons which are okay. But they're not enough for me in the summer.
