Applecore, I'm glad I'm not the only one with the sleepy baby after a few who required more night-time parenting Isn't it great? I hope you get your 8pm bedtime back, though- I feel worse if I have a tough evening than I do if I have a severely broken night.
It's still cool enough over here that River can sleep in a footed sleepsuit, so I don't have the toe problem. I think there's a market there for a talented WAHM, though, for something lightweight that covers a whole baby, including their toes...

Haven't been here in a while and I"m desperately trying to catch up. Things here are going well. Gracie just turned 5 months old and she's right about 14lbs. Had her 4 month checkup at the homeopath last week and was 14.2lbs. She's doing AWESOME! She does great pushing up her head and chest while on her tummy and every now and then pulls her knees in. She's grabbing at things semi acurrately now and starting to bring them to her mouth. She doesn't roll over much but I KNOW she can do it. I've seen it. She is an amazing sleeper. She likes a morning and afternoon nap and then a little cat nap in the evening and goes down reliably without a fuss(by herself on our bed with the room darkened) at 7:30 or 8pm and wakes around 5:30am to nurse and back to sleep until 7am and up for the day. She's an absolute dream! Nursing is going well. She obviously is gaining well and she shows absolutely no interest in any solids despite all the comments we get from people(I have NO intentions of starting until she can feed herself). We are looking forward to beach time this summer and playing outside and enjoying the summer off from dealing with school schedules and such. Next Friday is big sister's last day so that will be nice. She really is just an awesome baby! Loves the sling, is so-so on the mei tai and is just a dream to be around. I'm amazed with how far she's come.

I just took my bed off the frame. We sleep on a mattress on the floor. Worked with my older kids. Doesn't keep them from falling, but it lowers the height of the fall so it doesn't hurt so much. They do learn very quickly what their boundaries are. Most nights I am the meat(or tofu if you do that!) and Gracie and Sara are the bread of our little co-sleeping sandwich and neither one falls out of bed. Add the cat to that mix and it's pretty cozy. The 8 year old decided that she wasn't that big on snuggling with her baby sisters and her mom so she stays on the top bunk bed in their room.

Me too. I felt so guilty during the newborn period when everybody kept cutting me slack and assuming I was as sleep-deprived as I was with my blondies only not able to handle it as well because of my extre 20 years.

The truth is that I loose more sleep worrying about the teenager than I ever have getting up with this particular infant.

He naps off and on in the sling during the day at work and is always a total charmer, although he's starting to find interacting with people to be more fun than sleeping. He's never a bit of trouble, though.

We're still not doing toys (other than our birth beads, my little house on the prairie braids, yoga ball, and the stuff that's always been around) but I've seen an absolute explosion of hand control lately. He has such gentle hands!

NOS I have been starting to wonder where you have been!

Ash is becomming great with her hands too, she isnt gentle though she is also startin to kiss, mouth wide open and plants one on you to cute!!! She isn't doesnt seem interested in her teething rings, she would rather have a piece of cloth of some sort in her hands, She has a few cloth dolls and cloth blocks that she likes a lot. I am trying to avoid plastic crap like the pest I am glad that dh is a carpenter and that he can make her things.

'Tomorrow we start infant swimming i think that ash will like it she loves the water.

ok sister update

i see the thread is 3 more pages long since i last was here but I wanted to update on my post about my sister breastfeeding...

She is BREASTFEEDING!!!!

I am so excited for her and her new babe.

I have been talking to her about it and when the babe was born she said she was so anxious about it and hadn't tired. So I told her to ask for a pump and start pumping and to see the LC and to stop all bottles.

So she called me a day later to tell me her story...

Her babe had been super fussy, the pedi told her that the formula he was on was not working so she would have to switch (it was Carnation Good Start..i hate that stuff...very gassy babies on that), then he asked her if she thought about trying to bf?(now this is great b/c her pedi is old and old school) so she told him she was nervous. the LC came in and spent a lot of time with them and she got him latched 2x by herself and he fed 20 mins on each side.


I was so excited I wanted to run around a hug everyone...I was in the car though. I have talked to her and she said things are still going well, he is better on the right than the left...I had the same problem.
she told my mom it was so cool...indeed it is! I am so glad I brought to the "dark side"

just wanted to share a good bf success story.

Allyn, that's awesome news!

Sharun, Molly sounds like she is in a very similar place with her hands. It's so cute to see her gain control and almost be surprised at herself sometimes!

She is the most kissable baby I have ever met. I just love her little cheeks and want to eat them up!!

Bear gives kisses too!! He's SO sweet about it, gets all happy and giggly when he makes contact. I love slimy baby kisses, there's nothing quite like them.

Kaia too, The closer she gets to the face with her kiss, the wider her mouth opens, heh. She gets all smiley and giggly. I'm amazed at how good she's getting with her hands, too. She's preferring to chew on her wood toys now rather than her cloth toys. She had some organic cloth veggies and fruits from one grandma which she was digging, now she's all about the abacus, her wooden ring rattle, and the wooden cage thing with beads on and a bell in the middle, whatever you call those things.. er.. these toys: trix triangle rattle rolling rattle abacus and rings rattle or similar to those ones, anyway. These are awkward things to be able to get into her mouth so I think the desire to nom on hard things has really helped out her coordination and fine motor skills. She's so funny to watch

HI all

We had our very first scare with one of our kids health this week and i just wanted to update everyone..

2 weeks ago Abbie had an off day were she was puking. I thought no big deal she must have the horrible viral belly thing that everyone we know has...it lasted for about 12 hours. She was also running fevers btw 104 and 101 the puking ended the fevers remained...she continued to be just a bit off.

By wednesday my mommy spidey sense was going off so I called the doc (we use the Sears practice) and brought her in to be checked....the docs feeling was that she had something viral but wanted to run a urine culture just in case

very long story short
3 antibiotics and a trip to the emergency room later Abbie has a gnarly bladder infection

we finally got a negative culture on friday and she is just starting to feel better (15 days from onset of symptoms) now...

I am not a big fan of antibiotics (my oldest has only had 1 round after an ear infection ruptured an ear drum) but this one had me pretty tweaked..

I am thrilled to have my happy baby back and grateful that I followed my intuition to have this one checked

Newmommy27, yay for spidey sense! I'm glad Abbie's feeling better.

Well, Twyla is down for the night (I hope), but she also didn't take a real nap all day. She slept for about 20 minutes 2 times. I'm hoping that doesn't become a pattern- my other two stopped napping pretty early.

My sister is having such a hard time nursing. I've never seen nipples in such bad shape. She was down to nursing on one breast and pumping on the other yesterday because one side was slightly better than the other. We went over there, and I nursed him for her so she could have a break on that side, and she just cried because she wanted to do it so badly. They did get her a nipple shield, which I'm not really a fan of, but I think the problem was positioning, not latch, so hopefully it won't be a problem to get off of that once she's healed a bit. She's so determined to bf that I know it will work out in the end, but it must be awful when it feels like it's so hard. My heart goes out to her, and all women who have problems with nursing.
