Of course not. But why is it acceptable to guilt parents into using carseats and not drinking during pregnancy, but it's UN acceptable to use the TRUTH about formula?!
This.

1littlebit: (((hugs))) i'm sorry things have been so rough for you and you didn't get the support/education you needed. Good luck on your re-lactation.

However, consider the "honey". Whenever people say the line about flies, it seems to be in support of continuing to say "breastmilk is best" with all the implications of "...but it's okay to not try that hard because after all formula is just as good."

It's just as much "honey" to emphasize the benefits of breastfeeding without ever mentioning formula as it is to make carefully worded comparisons of breastmilk and formula. "In just the first day of breastfeeding your baby will get X, Y, Z, PLUS the second day of breastfeeding is even easier." "In just the first 6 weeks of breastfeeding your baby gets P, Q, R, and after the first 6 weeks--less that 2 months--you'll be comfortable and confident about breastfeeding and it'll be smooth sailing." "It's a skill you and your baby learn together and there are some great teachers in this town if you need advice about anything."

Assume the mother wants to breastfeed and assume she will breastfeed. We get so worried about not offending the people who have trouble that we forget that most of the women who might contemplate making the choice to use formula instead have never had problems breastfeeding.

Save the discussions on how breastfeeding doesn't always work for the women who specifically ask about it. And don't give them a laundry list of every possible problem, let them say what they're concerned about.

(Anyone remember a study that came out that showed that cultures who assumed that everyone would breastfeed had virtually no latch issues like we tend to almost expect to happen?)
Interesting. Like a cultural/societal mind over matters thing? Or a self fulfilling prophecy?
