Hi Dingos

I have not been on line for a while computer crashed! We are hoping to restore the hard drive. Oh well it was kind of freeing not having it.

Had a great run today about 4 miles it is hot!!! here well in the 80's I'm not complaining. The kids get out of school this Thursday so I will have to switch to early morning runs which will of course be cooler.

Tjsmama a saw your blog you and your little guy are adorable!

Poppy-did you stay at the Holiday Inn right next to Turner Field when you were here? I'm thinking of surprising dh with a Braves game and a night w/o kids for his bday. That location would be great b/c we could walk and both of us could drink a little.

Yes! we did. It was fine, although we didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel. The people at the front desk were real nice about switching us to a non-smoking room with two beds [was booked wrong] There was a game that night and it was certainly really close to the hotel. Have fun!

despite my decision to not run, i ended up doing a 30 minute run/walk on trails today. i took it easy, didin't go too far and didn't press it and i actually feel pretty good right now. mostly because i went outside in the beautiful weather for 30 minutes.

Hey Dingos!

I think I might have made a new friend! : I went on a stroller walk with this woman who is a total fitness nut/guru. We did four miles (according to her mapping and I get the feeling she knows iykwim) in 40 minutes. That's faster than I normally run. Is that possible? I know I was trying to look cool and not do too much huffing and puffing when it was my turn to talk. Anyway, she also rides her bike with a chariot (thought of Gaye when I saw that thing) and she also is into Tae Kwon Do which has been on my I Want To Try list for oh, 20 years or so. So anyway, she suggested I come to the beginner adult class tonight and offered to come to it too so I'd have someone I knew there and since it's my birthday tomorrow I made the executive decision to start. Dh can watch the girls tonight and then once I'm not a total fresh-off-the-boat newbie it's apparently okay to bring kids too. Sweet!
Anyway, she seems totally nice, a little intense perhaps but I probably seemed weird to her too, you know that first date kind of thing.

Now I need to focus on getting a bike! I do not want to have to get used to paying the 4.68/gal for gas here on the island!!! Any suggestions? I should have taken better notes when Bec was bike shopping, I think I was just overwhelmed with packing then. I need something good on roads that I can tow a trailer for kids and groceries. My fantasy me will be biking dd1 to school and then doing all the errands with Ali G (oh yeah with a stop at the gym for a master's swim! ). Then eventually I'll want a tri bike but first I need to get this butt in gear for erranding! What do I want oh Wise Biking Dingos?

MOTHercat - Yup, you've got Tri-itis. That's cool.

I can't be much help on choosing a bike, but here's what I did.
Went to the local bike shop and talked to the guys there explaining what I needed the bike for and that, not knowing if I would like tri's, didn't want to spend too much. They found a light weight road bike and put racing tires and cage petals on it for just a little bit more. I'm really happy with it, but that's probably because I haven't ridden a tri bike.
There is one small problem. It has a flat 25.4 mm thick handlebar and I will need to change it out for one a little thicker so I can add aerobars. Most clip on aerobars fit on handlebars that are 26.0 mm or bigger.

BTW: (ignorance showing here) is master's class for a specific age group or is it for very experienced swimmers?

poppywise - the link is fine, but I may need to change it later anyway. Our runner has gotten the tri bug and decided she may want to do all the legs of the sprint distance on her own. My fault for encouraging her.

kerc - I think he's a a-hole reading it, but it's still interesting. He just reads as an emotionally stunted man. But I am enjoying reading about his growth as an athlete. As a man he probably has a lot of growing left to do.

I did 4 today in 35 min. The first two miles were 9 min miles, the third an 8 and the fourth 7:58.

3 'fast' miles in the heat.

On the clip on handlebars -- isn't there some way of getting the 0.6 mm thickness (tape? bracket?) so that you don't have to swap the whole dang things?

masters swimming = anyone >18. Usually you get a whole bunch of different ability levels.
Phew.... I'm beat, but I did ride 23 miles tonight, slightly faster than the previous two rides (15.4 mph). I've got a ways to go before I hit the 19 or so mph I was racing at last summer. Still, every time I'm on the bike I remember how much I just love riding .

mothercat ~ master's swimming is basically adult swim team. They have lanes for all ability levels, from super slow, to WAY fast. The best part is that it's a set workout and you have other people swimming with you, plus most master's teams have a coach on deck to help with stroke, form, etc. I loved mine in Illinois, but can't find one here that meets at a time I can do.

The guy at the bike shop did show me a set of aerobars with a metal filler and thought they would work. However, he also suggested I look on the web for aerobars that are made for 25.4. If I find one I like, he can order it and match the price with installation for free.

I did find one by Syntace, and it's on sale. I just need to come up with the money. Promised the DH I wouldn't go into debt pursuing this. Just like he's not allowed to go into debt playing ice hockey. He's a goalie, so big time expense.

I wish the Master's Swim team here was better! It meets at the teeny, tiny YMCA pool -- only 4 lanes and it gets so crowded on the nights that the local tri club coach is there. And then all his little sycophants just glom to the end of the pool to talk themselves up and sound super impressed with themselves.

Sooooo... I'm going to have to figure something else out for my Tri training this year. I guess I could easily make the 20-minute drive to the main campus of my university and use their pool... for free... once a week or so.

OK, sign me up for THIS! Apple Capitol Olympic Triathlon

Wow, 19 mph sounds so fast to me right now! My average speed for my ride yesterday was around 14 mph. Of course, I slowed WAY down on the second half, but still... I look at my superstar friend and she averaged over 24 mph in her last race and it just boggles my mind! My max speed yesterday, on a downhill, was only 23 or so!

Re: master's swim team...I would absolutely love to do it, I just can't find a group that meets at a convenient time. The one that meets at the Y meets at 6 pm, which just doesn't work well with DS's nap/dinner/bedtime schedule. Plus it's an extra charge class. My MIL's Y in Cincinnati, it's just a drop-in class, so I may check it out if I can while we're there next week.

rr~Bagged the run this morning. WAY too tired! I did get to the Y for a swim tonight. I swam my distance for this weekend in 100 yd intervals, plus some for about 900 yds total. It's amazing to me how much faster/easier swimming distances is when you break it down to 100 yd intervals...just 4 lengths at a time!

DS had his 2 year well-baby check this morning. We're now up to 30th percentile for weight! : This is the kid who dropped off the charts around 6 months to the point that we were doing weekly weight checks and discussing how to get my milk supply up without supplementing. He had just barely cracked back on the charts at a year. So, woohoo! He unfortunately has a super hoarse voice and a hacking cough again. I really our ped though. Instead of jumping right back on the antibiotic train, he's trying a week of zyrtec to see if it helps before we resort to the antibiotic again. He had his first dose right before bedtime, and I've only heard a couple of coughs since, so that's an improvement! Oh, and apparently DS's 2 year molars are JUST about to poke through, so that could explain a LOT of the cranky/crabby/feverish stuff last weekend.

Tomorrow is second try at getting the car serviced, so hopefully no rain! We'll drop off the car and bike a couple of blocks to a trail that runs back to our house, but also many many miles the other way as well. Depending how I feel, we'll either come home to wait for the car to be ready, or bike the other direction as far as we can get till the dealership calls!

Well.. it took us awhile so you would've been lurking a little bit. I tried not posting in TTC too much because I knew someone around here would find me.

Perfect running weather today, but I am so tired. Going to take my stuff to work and see, but first I am going to do a little pilates, I think. Got to get ds to school early today--going to the Milwaukee Zoo. I'm jealous.

Lots going on around here...I am starting to get creative ideas in my head about how to achieve a life of farming and writing. I'll get there, but it will take a lot of prep, planning and forging ahead with courage. On the bright side, I am less anxious about my job than I was a week ago.

OK. Off to work the abs.

Heading out to body sculpt class then another treadmill run (. Now my cold has settled in both eyes and I look like I've been on a marathon crying jag. In a purely vain though-it makes the blue of my eyes look a really cool turquoise color.

BBM-Dang you're getting SO fast!

Don't worry, Geo will get her chance in about 9 months. And we'll all go crazy with anticipation!!!

Yes, Jenlove, I knew you had been scarce around here so I was wondering, but I am nowhere near the chief stalker (Geo, how did you not find her post in TTC???). do you have an EDD yet or did I miss it?

I have some stupid errands to do today and some dingo carriers to finish , and I'm going to try to get in some yoga. Also, I think I'm finally ready to start doing some weights for arms. Any recs or websites on some simple stuff to do (preferably while watching TV or something? ).
