Ladies, please check out the x-ray results and help a mama and her son out... thanks!

RR: weights are done today, felt good!

Lisa, poor ds. Madeline had some constipation issues a couple of years ago and our (very natural) doctor recommended using the fiber powder you mix into water or juice. It worked and quite effectively. I'd plan on staying home after the first dose if you try it. The natural fiber she was getting from tons of fruits and veggies just wasn't doing enough for her, but they do now that things are, ahem, cleaned out.

Lisa Prunes or prune juice? DD loves prunes, she calls them giant raisins In addition to adding helpful foods, you could try to cut out problem foods - in some people I think dairy, rice, cheese, etc. can be problematic...

megs I have similar drama occasionally w/ my sister although of a slightly different flavor since she is 8 years younger than me. It is such a yucky feeling

Home again. My mom is doing OK, not great, but OK (the latest thing is blood pressure issues.) My brother and I picked her up from the hospital on Saturday and took her home. I haven't seen her so close to the end of her rope and felt so bad for her. We got her settled in and as she was so tired we left again so she could rest. My stepdad is taking another week off work but we are discussing whether at some point I or my brother should come and give him a week off from being the caregiver.

DD did OK at home. It was the first time I've been away from her overnight and it was hard, but it was also good to have a chance to be my mom's daughter without being pulled to be R's mom at the same time. R is wicked bored and I am so glad summer camp starts again tomorrow.

I need to get back into a routine with the running and exercise. I am suffering from the stress and lack of exercise something fierce.

I'm going to try to catch up on the camping plans this evening... I CANNOT wait to go!

Hi all...long time no read! I did not go through all 6 pages...I did read about drjen's anniversary gift, which sounded awesome! DH's and my anniversary was Thursday (6/19) and we basically wished each other happy anniversary and that was it! Then I left him alone with the kids for 3 days. :

My girls' weekend away was incredible. Soul-restoring, relaxing, refilling, and fun. I hope it has "filled my cup" for at least the next couple of months. I have definitely been way more patient and "playful" around the kids since arriving home. Even though I tried driving into the garage with the kayak still on top of the car. Oops. (I put a dent in the kayak but DH got it out.)

I ran on Saturday morning, about 2.25 miles, with 3 of the other women. I just did about 3.3 miles at lunchtime today and wow...I can tell that I pretty much just ate constantly for 36 hours this weekend! But since DD is in swimming lessons for 2 weeks, I will have the morning to myself to run guilt-free (i.e., I won't feel like I should be home hanging out with the kids before work), so I can ramp it back up.

Speaking of getting faster...please remove me from the Stowe 8-miler on July 20. There is just no way I'm doing that race a day after the beer festival. BUT you can sign me up for the Fairfax Egg Run 5K on August 2!

RM - Well, at least you have a place to start now right? I don't have any useful experience to offer just s.

Balancin - I'm glad you got to be just the daughter for a bit too, it must be more than twice as hard playing both roles.

So I just wanted to come boast, dd1 just auditioned for the Missoula Children's Theater and was cast as a bat in Snow White! I'm so proud of her! :

RR: Yesterday's 3 miles was actually 2.8. I thought I'd clocked the distance at 3 but apparently not. But it felt good and it was still .8 longer than the SmartCoach told me to do.
Here are my goals for the week -
Monday - Tkd
Tuesday - Run 2 mi
Wed - Tkd
Thurs - Run 2 mi
Friday - ?
Sat - Dig a bunch of post holes with dh
Sun - Run 3 miles

Plady..congratulations to DD!
My dd has concluded that Snow White must have been a vegetarian, because she was friends with all the animals!

Took my dog to the vet because she's been limping and I got worried about Lyme disease. Well, she's just old and that prognosis set me back a fair few $$! Darn it!

I just have to brag on my 5YO DD - she did a 1-mile fun run a couple of weeks ago and was the first kid under 7 to finish! She ran it in 11:58. It was HOT that morning, too. I'm thinking she got some of my sister's speedy DNA.

I know I have been a little absent, but I hve been reading along.

I had to come here and post that I have found my DREAM marathon!!!!

I Tanzania!

I must find the funds to do this over the next couple of years!!!!

Zumba done today.

If we're talking dream marathons, I want to do the Cayman Islands Marathon. Maybe we should get a Dingo team to do the relay?
i have a connection for a house in west bay.

but if we're talking races on grand cayman, it has to be the hell and back 10K. i missed that race by a few hours last year. bummer.
Kate-I bet that race has an awesome shirt.

Seriously-I think it would be so fun to round up a Dingo team or two for a marathon relay.
One of my good college friends wants me to go run this marathon with her in Iceland

I will volunteer to run a leg of the dingo marathon though
post #614 of 752
I'm liking the sound of all these races! Just need to come up with $$!
Those races do sound great!

Just back from 2500m in the IU Outdoor Pool. I LOVE swimming outside after dark. It's just delicious . Tomorrow morning, a 6 mile run scheduled.

lisa~I've recently discovered that pineapple seems to work wonders to get things moving for DS. The kid was so constipated last week that he made himself throw up trying to push it out. Had some pineapple with dinner and breakfast, and we had about 8 poops in 72 hours, no joke! And this is the kid who typically only poops about every 3 days! Might be worth a try, at least...

quick question: how do i get to be a faster runner? um, i feel stupid even asking but i know it's 'distance before speed' so once i reach a consistently comfortable long run distance, i would like to pick it up a notch. it is doing tempo runs? what is that exactly? thanks!
How about me? Close to me? And I know I'm late to reply to this, but it's been sitting in my brain since you posted! Tempo runs will definitely help, but I think the biggest difference for me has been track workouts. I went from running 10 minute miles at my fastest before I started track in February to an 8:37 pace 5k last month! A combination of the two will definitely help you increase your speed overall. Here's a pretty good article from RW about tempo runs. I treat it as slightly less than race pace, but to be honest, I don't do them all that often. I figure my weekly track workouts are usually enough speedwork. If I can't do a track workout, or if I just really feel like a challenge, then I'll do a tempo run.

I am SO freaking exhausted today. The dog tried to tell me he needed to go out at 5:30 (I said no way, jose!), then DS (obviously still on eastern time) started talking around 6. I managed to ignore him until almost 7. I had to go get an MRI on my knee (the one with the annoying pain that won't go away), then went to the Y for a 2700yd swim workout. I have a busy week ahead, too. Lots of errands to run to make up for being out of town for almost two weeks.

I am so torn on tapering right now. Theoretically, I should be tapering for my tri on Sunday. BUT with my oly only a month away, and with the possibility that I might be getting a cortisone shot in my knee on Monday and need to take 5-7 days off, I kind of feel like I don't have time to taper. But then, I'm so tired right now, I also feel like I might need to take a break. Blork. What should I do?

Note to Diva Cup users:

Not for use when doing jumping kicks.

I was this >< close to having a really embarrassing moment at taekwondo this evening.

'nuff said.

Gaye, I did a modified taper before my sprint distance race this past weekend. Basically, I stayed on training plan through Tuesday, did an easier bike ride (45 min) on Wednesday, an easy swim on Thursday, and took Friday off before racing on Saturday. You're not going to lose fitness by taking it easy for a few days, and from the sound of it, you may be teetering on that edge of overtraining right now anyway.

Poppy, I also wanted to comment on getting faster. Like Gaye said, the key is speedwork, either on the track or the treadmill. I've gone from running around a 10:00/mile pace for 5K to 7:47/mile last weekend. Try doing .25 mile intervals at a hard pace, with .25 recovery between. You'll notice that you'll be able to run your intervals faster and faster as you do them. Once a week or so is enough.

: Yipes! I have found it's also not recommended for speedwork. Glad I was wearing the red shorts that day : I stocked up on 'pons for when I run now.

No running today, just some afternoon yoga. MUST do the yoga. I slacked off the past few weeks and my diastasis just pooched right back out there, despite LOTS of running and walking. I'm considering surgery again. Any opinions?

RM, sorry y'all are dealing with this! We swear by Kashi cereal. Heart to heart is good but the best is one of the Go Lean crunches.

I'm sorry for all of you mamas dealing with constipated dc. We have had the opposite problem around here. We have all been dealing with stomach issues around here. It was my turn yesterday. Ugh....no fun. Have you tried pushing lots more fluids like juice and water. Sometimes it is just an issue of not getting enough fluids.

Plady~ I'm glad you didn't have a serious issue with the diva. That would have been horrible. I'll make that note in case I ever decide to use a diva....no jumping jacks, no speed work either :

Jaygee~ Swimming in the dark sounds like a lot of fun. I'm glad you had a good time. I found out the other day that we are getting a new YMCA in the area with a new indoor pool. The one at the older Y is not in such great shape anymore....and pretty chilly in the winter. I have been getting out to swim more often and I'm really enjoying it.

RR: No run for me today since I'm still fighting this bug off. I don't want to push it too far.

NRR: I have a tole painting class at church with some other ladies this afternoon. Should be fun.
