So... Ike LOVES deep bathtubs with jets. I've just been taking him in the bath with me when he seems like he needs a little rinsing off, and "the bath" here at our babymooning locale is a deep tub with jets. Usually he'll enjoy a bath for five minutes, then start the screaming. Add a little moving water, though, and he quieted down and just kind of blissed out. Not sleepy, necessarily... he was bright-eyed and looking around, but was HOLDING STILL for once. He whimpered once, so I nursed him right in the bath (usually it just isn't deep enough to keep him warm and under the water) and I didn't have to restrain any flailing limbs.

Can we just live in the tub for the next two months? Might get boring for DH, though, as he has to stand at the ready with his fingers on the button to turn off the jets in case of a poop incident.

holy crap mama, how do youmanage? mine will go down for 5-10 minute intervals if i catch her in the right space. but like an hour out of arms,or even 30 mins, is rare.like as innot a daily occurrance. i have carriers and can nurse in the sling (thonot hands free). carriers are REALLY helpful but not a cureall, yk? i need to shower, dress, put out the garbage, change the landry, drive my older dd to school (most of the time z screams in her carseat the whole way), cut the occasional onion...

often i can time things pretty well, but sometimes she ends up crying. i move as fast as i can, talk to her, etc but i feel horriblewhen she is out of arms crying. its like, 'okay, z is down for a minute... shower? dress? make food for DD1? tidy something? fold clothes?' and i run around like crazy til she starts crying. freaking nuts man.

and i also have this vague niggling doubt of 'this cant be normal, what about the folks who manage to put newborns down for naps?' yk? i remember this feeling from my first dd, altho the intensity of my memory of how constant it was has faded...

itsnormal and okay, yes? logically i think it is, my gut says the babe is fine... she is not colicky or fussy in general, like never inconsolable, she just... likes to be held. and likes to nurse. yk? she is gaining weight quite quickly, i have a lot of milk, all seems well. shejust wants to be ON me almost aaallllll the time.

tis okay? other ppl have babes like this too? (nak, of course )

I'm not managing well! I did indeed ask the doc for zantac today for him but doc didn't think his reflux was bad enough.

Mostly I'm still in bed with him (so many reasons, not least of which is my numb hands and lack of blood). DH holds him as much as he can, but often he just tries to latch on to DH so gets passed back to nurse again.

DH says something like that at least once a day. We just do NOT remember DS3 being this bad... but yet he too was an "in arms" baby so he MUST have been.... (memory loss?)

hello ladies! I have finally graduated over to this thread.

We're doing well; I'm just so in love with this girl . Other than the bleeding nips, (OUCH!) Swollen ankles (anyone else have this happen pp?) and gassy baby.

to the mamas struggling during this PP time.

Ah man, all you "in arms" baby mamas have my deepest sympathy. Izzy was (is) like that and it was hell.

Growth spurt time here as we're 2 weeks old now! Holy SHIeT I am touched out with all the nursing. Good to know it's transient. I'm so glad I'm doing this as an experienced mom and not a newbie.

I'm down 31 pounds! WOOT! It helps that 20 of it was baby/birth products and another 5ish was probably fluids. Still, I'm only 8 pounds above Pre-preg weight and that's nice no matter how I'm getting there, you know? Now if there was only a cure for "twin skin"!

I'm off to bed before someone wakes up and wants my boobie again!

all of mine, at one point or another have been. It's intense. Does babe like the sling/wrap at all?

ETA: After reading further, yea it's normal - some babies just want that constant touch. I'm finding it hard to manage what to do during those catnaps or any free time. Snuggle other kids, take shower, eat... I just know deep down, it will get better

Kate is both an in arms babe and not. During the morning, early afternoon, she is pretty content to be able to be set down. In the evening though, it is a whole other story! And it is sometime really hard to switch that.

What gets me is the squirmyness when trying to sleep. She is super squirmy and that is hard to sleep with. I am trying though. I am hoping that she settles a bit more and starts to have a longer sleep stretch than 3 hours at night. Has anyone with older babes than 4 weeks gotten to that point yet? Actually, I guess we are 5 weeks now. I can't believe it! 5 weeks old already. She has gained over 2 pounds since she was born though, so that is good. At least I know I am making good milk. Now I just have to have some for DH tomorrow night since I am going out for the evening with my mom.

I am totally rambling now. Must be the mushy brain from lack of sleep.

DD1 was an in-arms baby, big time. She absolutely would not sleep unless she was in bodily contact with me for the first 9 months of her life. I have a bad back and had to wear her for all of her naps. It was torture. I could set her down here and there, but not for long. I don't know how much was "normal" (e.g., personality) and how much might be attributed to her birth trauma .

I must say, Sophie is a nice change of pace (despite our ongoing digestive issues). The girl will SLEEP. BY HERSELF!!!! This is a novel concept for me . Anyway, you guys have my deepest sympathies, and for those who are flying solo, I can't imagine doing it without any help at all.

Saw the chiro yesterday and Sophie was all out of whack. She was still gassy last night (cried for a bit after each feeding -- sometimes I feel like my breastmilk is poison ), but she did settle down and slept without wiggling!!! Whoo hoo!! I got two 3 hour blocks of solid sleep! The crazy thing is she actually goes 4-5 hours between nursings (if you count from start of nursing to start of nursing, like you're supposed to), but between nursing, burping and farting, it's a good hour or more from start of nursing to back to sleep for me. Sigh. I sure hope this gassiness clears up SOOOOOOOON!

Well, I've been reading and not posting b/c it's one thing to nak and another to nak x 2. My older dd is still going full steam ahead with wanting to nurse as much as baby boo, so I am having to set some more limits with her with nursing. I was hoping that it would fizzle out, but no such luck. Other than that we're doing well...at 3 weeks old baby boo just decided that she likes being an "in arms" baby, so I can't put her down much either...the sling is becoming my friend once again

We've been out a few times this week just the 3 of us...to the park, the library, and a quick trip to the mall to get dh something for Father's day. I keep thinking we need groceries. but I don't want to brave the grocery store with both of them ummm...ever! I don't know how you mommas of more than 2 little ones do it. It's been funny to go out and have everyone 'oooh and awww' over the baby...I wasn't feeling very well when dd was 3 weeks old, so I was never out with her when she was this young. It's crazy the attention we get. After a few minutes out I feel like I need a shirt that says "back away from my baby!"

Well, ladies to all the mommas struggling, especially with anxiety. That was a nightmare for me after my last birth. Remember: take care of YOU so that you can take care of baby. Sending warm thoughts and hugs your way.

come now, that's yer badge of honor.

K's mom, yes, had foot swelling too. It's finally going down now (12 days pp).

Shanana, are you doing block feeding?

I wish my older nurseling were nursing more. He says it tastes "gross" now. most tandemers seem to love when the milk comes back. not so mine.
