Pregnant with #1 in our 30s June Thread! - Page 2

hi nony, thanks! I haven't taken the time yet to catch up with everyone... looks like you're almost there! How are you feeling these days?

I'm also planning to CD - I'll be staying with a fellow CDing couple when the babies arrive, so it'll make it much easier. She's collected a full newborn stash for me already! Are you going to try it?

Vegan, sorry to hear about your SI pain. I also have an old injury (pelvic fracture), so I hear you loud and clear. Is soaking in a warm bath an option? How about massage, if chiro isn't working? I'm also thinking that maybe some easy pelvic rolls and other exercises might help - I'm sure with the added strain on your abs, the SI is taking the brunt. Can you lie on your back for a few minutes still?

Congrats again to my DDC buddy jencat!
Welcome to the thread mynetname!

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm doing fine. I took a day off work yesterday, so I feel pretty good today. Also I have pre-natal yoga tonight, and I always look forward to that.

Also, I think I experienced my first BH last night. What a crazy sensation! I'm finding pregnancy to be very exciting.

Take care, mamas.

We started CDing around week 2--we just did disposables in the very beginning. I really wasn't able to do laundry after the c-section, so glad to not have the extra load, KWIM?
Anyway, we did mostly prefolds and covers the first month. I mean the babes grow so fast, and I didn't want to get stuck with expensive NB and XS sizes. I did buy some used Kissaluvs size 0, which were awesome for holding in poop--prefolds, not so much. I only had about 6 KLs, so we saved those for middle-of-the-night changes. Trying to do prefolds when your head is spinning isn't easy.
I can recommend Bummis Whisper Wraps and Imse Vimse wool for covers. I didn't really like Proraps or Swaddlebee covers. The Proraps didn't fit her right and the Swaddlebees held the stink, even after laundering. Yuck!
After she grew out of those (at about 12lbs), we started using old-style small FBs and BGs OS (one size). We really like both. The aplix on the BGs are great because you can get a good fit and the FBs are great because they are just so easy to wash because of the snaps (don't grab hold of everything like aplix).
We are still using those, but will soon be moving up to medium FBs and medium HHs.

I should mention that I got all my used old-style FBs for free (Yay!) and got the used KLs and HHs at a pretty good price. I bought all the covers new.

Try diaperswappers.com if you are okay with used dipes.

Good luck!!!!

PM me with specific questions, if you want. I don't always check here as often.

I lurk on this thread waaay too much, but how could I not come out of the corner and say : to Jencat! How amazing is that, a boy and a girl! What a great little family! Congrats!

Thank you for the dear compliments ladies.

And Poet - so glad you popped in! Thanks for the well-wishes. I think you know that I lurk in your world too cheering you on! You WILL be joining us sometime...

nony - so glad your babe is head down!

crosscat - I should have known with "cat" in your name, you were a cat lover too! But wait, that's your name too... how perfect.

Vegan - sorry to hear about your sacroiliac pain. Just from the name it sounds terrible! I hope that book comes soon and has some good advice/exercises.

Welcome mynetname!!

sweetpea - glad you're looking pregnant!!

Yep - we're planning to cloth diaper the twins... In our area there is a cloth diapering support group and they have meetings where you can check out different diapers and talk to moms and dads about what they like. Nony - maybe they have something like that near you? The group here is a chapter of the real diaper association. www.realdiaperassociation.org I have not been to a meeting yet but I'm planning to go soon. Celeste - you have your diapers already? - lucky!!

Ok, I have more fun news today. DH felt one of the babies kick tonight! On a whim I told him to put his hand on my tummy and see if he felt anything. After a few minutes, I felt a pretty good kick and looked at DH and he clearly felt it too!! That was really cool! I think he was really happy to have felt it.

Well, I have to work at 6 am tomorrow - ugh - so I better get to bed. Boy am I glad this week is over soon. Can I go to 6 hour days????

Poet, glad to see you lurking about! I hope you'll come to stay soon.

Jencat, the Real Diaper Association is totally cool. Lucky that you have a diaper support group near you. And yes, the shortened workday sounds divine!! Please, pretty please?

Celeste, wow, a pelvic fracture sounds very painful. The book did come, and the exercises seem to be helping a bit. Many of them involve lying on my back, and that's still ok. I also found a different chiropractor (have I visited every chiro in town? Almost!) today and I think he might be able to help.

I just wanted to stop in here and wish Kemi congratulations! I hope to join you girls real soon.

Quick question about multiples

Ive read that women who conceive after 35 have ahigher chance of carrying multiples. I was wondering how many in this thread, if any, has this happened to? I'm curious and secretly wanting multiples...but I wont know until my U/S next week. I say secretly wanting because DH isnt quite over the shock of us being pregnant..so I'll keep my wishes to myself and you fine ladies of course!
I think there are 3 of us on this thread having twins (if I remember right - pregnancy brain!)

My dr told me I had 8% chance of getting twins naturally and 10% on clomid. I got PG on 50 mg of clomid.

It wasn't really a surprise for us for some reason when we first found out. But then we spent the next 2 months in shock and denial! At least since they are our first we won't have anything to compare to... we'll think all babies are that much work!

I hope you get twins if that's what's in the stars for you!

I'm so happy for you Jenncat! Thats awesome a boy & a girl in there!! How exciting! Thanks everyone, for the warm welcome wishes. It's great to be here. I'm really learning alot.

HI!

Sorry for the hiatus, I was on a trip to the in laws for 10 days or so.

Ahhhh, SO glad to be home. Nothing like being in a wedding at 32 weeks, flying, and all that when I feel like I have a ton of things to do at home to get ready for the little one.

Getting close, 33 weeks. Wow. I think I need to get serious about getting ready. I'm such a slacker in that department right now.

Jencat, so cool, boy-girl twins, and crosscat, two boys! I'm so excited for you guys!

Not too chatty today, but wanted to pop in .

Hugs to all.

Hey ladies... Hope everyone is doing well.

Fiberlover - Don't start any rumors about me, I'm having one girl, not two boys. I bet you were thinking of Celesterra, right? Welcome back to the thread, I hope you're getting plenty of rest after all that adventuring!

I'm fine. Work is getting increasingly boring, though. Luckily we've finalized plans for vacation in mid-July. We're going to Washington D.C. and also we'll spend a few days at the family cottage on a lake, about three hours away from our home. I really needed something to look forward to, now that the 20week ultrasound is over!

Hee, yes, I was thinking of celesterra! OK, one girl, congratulations!

Glad you're planning a vacation, the cottage on the lake sounds lovely!

Hi everyone. Just wondering how everyone is doing?
Hello everyone!
Just checking in.
Seashelle, I am pretty good except for some insomnia which has me online at 2:30 am now...*sigh*
How are things going for you? Any aches/pains? Nausea?

Phillybama & Vegancupcake, thanks for all the CD tips. Is there anyone who can give any specific tips on CD a newborn boy in particular? Brands that are better?

Vegan CC: when you are updating the list, I am having a boy.

Hope things are good with all of you. I started yoga a few weeks ago and can't say enough good things about it. It is like physical therapy and I sleep so good after it.
Also I will be starting our Hypnobirthing classes in a few weeks...can't wait.

Hey seashelle - How are YOU? I'm really doing well. I feel great lately, and I'm in good spirits.

I agree with OrchideZ - pre-natal yoga is great. I've been going for about five weeks. I plan to continue until the baby arrives. I really look forward to class each week. I bought a DVD and try to practice at home, too.

OrchideZ: Do you all use a lot of props at your pre-natal classes? Our classes are very prop-intensive. When I use my DVD at home, I am always scrambling around looking for good prop substitutes. I use my Homer set for blocks: The Aenid and The Odyssey.

I can't find any Hypnobabies/Hypnobirthing classes in my area (though I missed a seminar at my yoga studio back in April), so I'm going to order the Hypnobabies Home Study Kit and hope for the best.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Hi everybody! It's so good to see some activity around here! We must all be busy. I know I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all my "things to do." But just like you Michelle - I've been a slacker. I feel like since twins could come really early (but won't if I can help it!) I need to get things done early... like get more life insurance, figure out health insurance for after baby comes (DH's or mine?), find a pediatrician, find a doula!, order cloth diapers, get some clothes!, replace the faucet in the bathroom, etc, etc...

Other than that pressure, things are going really great here! The doc confirmed our babies look great! (Although he's scheduling ultrasounds like crazy over the next 3 months...) DH has felt the babies move a few times! I'm flying to MI for my baby shower in 2 weeks. We have mostly gotten registered (except for diapers). I've joined the Mothers of Twins club and met a lot of really nice, helpful people! And I feel really great (just a little heartburn and some round ligament pain...)

What else? Oh, my boss told me yesterday anything I want to do after the babies are born is fine with her - come back right away, come back f/t after 6 mos, not come back at all, come back part time... is she the best or what?! What I'm thinking of asking about soon is cutting my hours before the babies come. I'm starting to get tired a bit with working 9 hour days and then running errands, working out, etc... makes for a long day.

Oh, we also started our childbirth classes yesterday and I'm really happy with the instructor. She's crunchy! And it's the hospital-sponsored class! I'm lucky to be giving birth at one of the top women's hospitals in the county, I guess! She's also a doula and DH whispered to me during class that he thinks she should be our doula. AND she made a comment that she really likes my dr which is a good thing b/c I've started wondering about him. Every time I ask questions about epidural catheters or giving birth in the OR, etc - he says, "let's talk about that when we're further along..." THAT makes me nervous that he's going to be mainstream about the medical stuff and not let me be as natural as I'd like.... we'll see, I guess.

Anyhoo... I've waxed on enough. I have the day off so I'm going to try to get some of my stuff done!

Hope everyone else is feeling good. Let us know!

OrchideZ, I updated you! Congratulations! I don't think a newborn boy would really have any different diapering needs than a girl--but I don't really know.

seashelle, yeah, how are YOU?

crosscat, we're doing the HypnoBabies live class, and I really enjoy it! I think you'll have great success with the homestudy course. The hypnosis practice is wonderful. A lot of the non-hypnosis stuff covered in the live class is totally old news for me, since I've read almost every relatively crunchy pregnancy book published in English, but DH says he has learned just copious amounts of stuff. And it's nice that he's learned it from someone other than me yakking!

Ug, I really want to get to a yoga class--I think I'm just going to go to a regular class, since no studios around me offer prenatal. I've done yoga before so I kind of have an idea what I'm doing--and I find DVDs just insanely boring, so I don't tolerate them well . . . .

We interviewed a hypnodoula last night. I've had little niggling feelings that we should hire a doula, even though we're having a home birth and our midwife is fabulous and has promised to fulfill all of those doula roles as well. The doula was very nice and friendly and seems like she might be a good fit. But maybe we don't need a doula at all . . .

Hey mamas, we have an update on a graduate! Rebecca (berrymac) had a baby girl, Delilah Eve, born Friday May 9 at 11:11 AM. She was 9 lbs 4 oz 20.5" long and is a beautiful healthy baby girl!
Congrats to Rebecca, and welcome to Delilah!!!

I've heard this too, but like Jen, in my case, the twins resulted from ovarian stimulation.

I'm not currently doing any kind of exercise! I keep wanting to get to the pool for the prenatal classes, but I'm shy about going, and haven't managed to break through that feeling yet. Lord knows I should be, I'm probably measuring about 30w now, and am getting pretty uncomfortable.

Vegan, I'm glad to hear you are getting a little relief for your SI pain.

I was going to write more, but I think I need to lay down, speaking of sore backs! Hope everyone has a nice weekend!
