Concerned that baby is ALWAYS head up

Thread Starter
I am only 25 weeks or so along but I am so concerned that the baby is ALWAYS head up. With my first pregnancy I felt his little feet kicking up above my belly button but with this one I just always feel that hard noggin floating around in that area. I have never felt the feet kicking upwards.
It is so strange.

I know that it doesnt become a concern yet but I am worried that this baby just loves this position and will stay that way. Any personal stories or tips?

have you been doing any positioning? I know it's a bit early for that but it might help you feel better to be more proactive?

All mine were head up until 34-35 weeks. My first was head up until labor began.

remember baby chooses his own best position but it always influenced by your posture. (Spinning Babies used to have some non-fear based information and support).

But it's not uncommon for 2+ babies to enjoy being feet first for longer. There is more room in that uterus the seond or more time around.

I'm 28 weeks and this babe has been persistently head up for a long time now. I am not sweating it though. Like the PP said, second babies sometimes stay head up even longer before switching since our bellies are looser this time around. I do plan on working on positioning by 30 weeks if he's still not butt-up.

I noticed that this baby seemed to be feet down a lot, too. I looked up some stuff on breech births, and the percentages of babies that remain breech after you've previously had vertex babies is really, really, low. So, I stopped worrying, and now I seem to notice baby's head in different positions more often (I'm 27 weeks).

It's normal up until 36 weeks or so, sometimes longer, for babies to be head up. At 20+ weeks, it's *supposed* to be head up! As the head grows bigger and gets heavier, gravity takes over and most of the time, baby goes head down. Sometimes that doesn't occur til labor in multiparous women(women who have had several babies). Don't sweat it. Read the spinningbabies website(in the stickies) and educate yourself as well as you can. Every piece of knowledge will help you have a better birth...

My last son was breech up until the time he flipped at 38 weeks. I was starting to be a bit concerned, but he figured out it was about time to get his act together (granted, with a lot of encouragement from me lol) and turned vertex a week before I went into labor.

My youngest sister was breech untill 42 weeks & then flipped the day before she was born during early labor.

It's also not that big of a deal to birth a breech baby! So even if baby doesn't flip (which is unlikely) there's nothing to stress about. I think all pregnant women should prepare themselves for any variation of 'normal' because the nature of pregnancy and birth is so unpredictable, but most of it is nothing to worry about.

ITA at that stage in pregnancy it's nothing to worry about. but definitely check out spinningbabies.com - it certainly doesn't hurt to work on positioning. and a visit to the 'ole chiropractor is always nice, whether baby's malpositioned or not since it helps with all those aches and pains. i went weekly to the chiro from about 34 weeks till baby was born at 41+5. FWIW, she was never breech, but was persistently posterior until 37 weeks, and turned right after a visit to the chiro (i went home and did an inversion a la spinning babies right after the appointment).
