**TMI** Question about c-section and bowel issues...

I really hate to bring this up......but I had my c-section Wednesday and had good bowel sounds that afternoon. By the next morning I was eating a regular diet and I think I finally passed gas by Friday sometime, but I don't remember. Yesterday was the first day I could poop, and it wasn't much for all the effort I put into it. I've been taking a daily stool softener. Today I actually had an urgent urge to go (so urgent in fact I was thinking I over did the stool softener!) so I went and all it was just a lot of bloody, not bright red but more brick in color, mucous. I've had bleeding from hemorrhoids before, but this wasn't the same at all. Is that normal? Or is it something I should worry about?

Yipes! That would freak me out. I would call your doctor or a hospital advice nurse and tell them about it. I had mucousy stools for a couple of weeks after birth, but blood in the stool is pretty scary. It's probably just from a little tear, but you don't want to risk infection.

I would call and ask too. After my c-section, my stools were completely normal.

Better to be safe than sorry

Yes, maybe from all the "effort you put into it" you gave yourself a tear? I don't know as my C-section had normal poo after. Maybe it's from the stool softener? Are you taking excess iron or anthing like that? I'd check with doctor just in case. Your body's been through quite a bit and strange but harmless things can happen then, but better to be safe.

I agree - ask about this one b/c it doesn't sound normal to me. I remember my BMs being pretty normal after my c/s a couple years ago. Better safe than sorry.

I've had four c-sections, and do have some issues, but I've never seen anything that looked even remotely like blood afterwards. I'd get that checked out.
