June's Exercise Thread - Page 3

^I actually wasn't working very hard. I don't know why I got sick. My step was even set at a lower height that what I normally do. I feel the same way today and I haven't done anything yet. I woke up early to the baby kicking and it felt like m/s again. Ick. DH thinks it's all stress-related since things are insane in my life right now. He's probably right. I just took some Rescue Remedy so hopefully my stress hormones will chill out soon.

I'll go the the gym for my fave cardio class tonight at 6:15. I look forward to this class so much because it's a workout that I don't have to teach! I can worry about only my workout and don't have to make sure that everyone else gets a good workout. I can stop and go to the bathroom anytime I need to and slow down when I need to. I can't do that when I'm instructing.

Tara, sorry to hear you're feeling icky.

I got in a good hour's workout here at home on Monday, worked on Tuesday, which is enough of a workout that I don't do anything else - I've tried before and boy did my body protest that! Yesterday morning DH, DS and I went to the park, DS rode his bike and we walked for about 45 minutes. I wanted to get in another workout here at home today but I woke up with a cold and I've got too many body aches to care about fitness lol...

I really need to stay active in this thread so I don't lose motivation to keep fit.

I was busy yesterday! I went 40min on the treadmill, then did about an hour of upper body weights, squats and lunges, oldest dd and I vacuumed and scrubbed the pool for about an hour, and later I went shopping with dh. I was pooped at the end of the day and slept so good last night!

Today, I just went 30min on the treadmill and will be busy cleaning house this afternoon. I made a deal with the kids if we did deep house cleaning today I would take them out for lunch and to the library for some books. They jumped on the offer and are all busy right now while I'm cooling off after my walk.

I had pre-natal yoga tonight. I always walk to class, but it's not very far away.

I skipped my walking today and went for a swim instead. We were in there about an hour when we had to get out because of thunderstorms.
Bumping this thread up again, I did 20 minutes of walking today at the gym.

I need support though. I'm feeling more and more uncomfortable going to the gym. All the people there stare at me. At first I thought I was just being self conscious, but no, it's really the truth - or at least it for sure really feels that way. I don't know why, but it makes me feel so terrible, like I'm being judged. I'm starting to feel like I don't belong there anymore! It's like, when I walk through the gym, all eyes are on me and I don't like the attention. I start having contractions early b/c I don't like how uncomfortable I feel with all the stares and stuff. It's really annoying...

Oh no Carrie! That's really uncomfortable. Maybe they're staring for other reasons? Maybe because you look great and they admire you for dragging your pregnant hiney to the gym?

That could seriously be it, Carrie. You DO look great, after all.

Lol yeah I could not see anybody judging you for going to the gym!!! Or maybe they all think that women just don't do that while pg Oh wait, that would be me :
Carrie - I think they are probably staring b/c they're amazed that you are working out. People at my gym (YMCA) are always telling me I look great and it's wonderful that I'm still working out...

Although tonight my aerobics instructor told me to "take it easy." I thought I was doing just fine but I can see myself overdoing it and being sorry later. I don't want to bring on preterm labor!

Carrie - if you feel good, do it! The stares are probably the people who did less then you thinking, "Wow, that pg gal worked harder than me! I better do longer on the treadmill tomorrow..."

Just listen to your body...

Oh, thanks guys! You make me feel so much better! I hope that's what they're thinking. Instead I just feel so aware of my belly, and so slow, and like they're mad that I'm on the treadmill walking when they want to get a hard workout in.

That, and I think I need to wear something different. Right now I'm layering two maternity tank tops and I have a pair of black maternity gym shorts. Finding gym clothes that are flattering and not just a huge tent is harder than I thought it would be - and I get so hot that I need to wear a tank top, rather than just a big t-shirt or something.

We shall see - maybe I just need to work on my confidence a little more.

Post a photo in your workout clothes - we'll tell you how hot you look!

(I'm still stuffing myself into my old workout pants... where did you find maternity workout clothes? I have some tanks, just no pants/shorts.)

WHEN I work out at the gym I still go in and tank and usually get too hot and strip down to my sports bra If ppl don't like looking at my belly, well, they don't have to look

Yeah, with DS I used to go to a swimming aerobics class every day and the instructor told me I should only be going 2 - 3 times a weeks max...

Today I plan on doing prenatal yoga and walking to Target and back... again, not too high impact but since I haven't really been working out, it is definitely enough for me, gets me breathing heavier and sweating especially in this heat! Plus, about halfway there I start to have BH and I don't want to push too hard.

Oddly enough I found a pair of nice black cotton maternity shorts at Motherhood! They were on clearance, too, for only $7. They're comfy and not too ugly.

It is so hard to get a regular exercise routine in, I try to do something every day I don't work, like use the elliptical or go for a long walk/jog and mix in a workout routine I can do here in the living room... but I'm starting to get a bit disheartened. Non-pregnancy, staying active means I don't gain weight and stayed decently toned, even with the "toned down" amount of exercise I'm doing these days. I just don't get it though, now I'm gaining weight in places where the baby is definitely NOT lol, my butt and thighs are just ballooning with complete disregard to healthy diet or exercise. Anyone else going through this? I suppose I need to remind myself that this must be where my body wants to keep fat stores for breastfeeding this time around.

This week:

Monday: 2 hours of weight training classes
Tuesday: 1 hour of step class
Wednesday: 2 hours of weight training classes
Thursday: plan to take the cardio mix class in the evening
Friday: 1 hour of step class

I get funny looks from people too, especially when I go to the gym to take a class as a student. I also get people who question whether or not I should be working out let alone teach, at all. My students question my particpation in our ab work and the fact that I still do high impact activities. I tell them that the baby is very used to it and is in so much fluid that there's no harm. As long as it doesn't cause pain or discomfort for me, then it's fine for the baby. Since they respect me as instructor, they actually believe me (good thing it's the truth!) and are always shocked at how much they were told they couldn't do when they were pg. Yay for education!

Also, I had a student tell me yesterday that she's never seen someone look so cute in workout gear when pregnant! Awww! How sweet! I was wearing non-maternity clothes that still fit. It was an electric green razor back tight-fitting stretchy top and cropped black pants. The top won't be long enough for too much longer so I'm trying to wear it when I can!

Baby_Cakes I am starting to feel self conscious at the gym too... but then the other day a girl came up to me in the locker room (this was at the end of the workout when I had been self conscious for 30 min thinking everyone was staring at me) and she said "when are you due? your belly is so cute!"

I was flattered (so easy to flatter me these days!) - and it made me think that yes, they are probably staring at me but not necessarily in a bad/negative "she shouldn't be in here" way... who knows.

If I can get to the gym 3 times a week to do 30 minutes of cardio I am proud of myself... But I don't know if that's enough?

Before pregnancy I was doing yoga all the time, now I haven't found a good prenatal class to go to so I haven't gone since week 12 (I'm at week 22 now)...

I've found swimming to be the absolute best thing to do - but last week the pool was closed so i haven't been for a while. I can feel it in my ligaments and lower back when I haven't been swimming.

Anyway, thanks for this thread - you guys are motivators!
^Yes, 30 min of cardio is enough if that's when you feel challenged! You should always work to the point of being challenged but not beyond. It'll be different for everyone.

I agree about the swimming. It's absolutely heavenly feeling in the water! Can't wait to see how good it feels when I'm huge later this summer.

Monday - I went for a walk outdoors with dh and then came home and did upper body weights, squats and lunges.

Tuesday - nothing - I had company most of the day and never squeezed any exercise in

Today - went for a 40min walk and did 30min of upper body weights and squats. Tonight we'll probably take the kids to the park and walk the nature trails and then go up and down a big hill there. It's this huge hill that kids love to run up and slide down on big pieces of cardboard. It's a good workout chasing after them!
