Gauge question

My gauge needs to be 20 sts and 32 rows. I am getting 20 sts and 28 rows. If I switch needle size to reach row gauge won't that screw up the stitch gauge?

usually stitch gauge is more important than row gauge. Does your pattern tell you to work for a certain number of inches high? If so then don't worry about row gauge, just knit until it measures what the pattern says. And don't worry about it if you are knitting something like a blanket, since row gauge does'nt matter much for that kind of thing. It really depends on your pattern and what you're making, but I have been knitting six years and have'nt paid attention to row gauge, just my stitch gauge!

It doesn't give me length it says knit 18 rows etc. It is for fingerless gloves, Dashing in Knitty. I think what I just need to do is the manual math conversion for the equivilant of inches.

How are you with fractions? You can easily convert the pattern row no. to what you get with your yarn.

For example: 18 rows at 32 rows/4" = 2 1/4"

if you get 28 rows in 4", you'll need to do 16 rows to get 2 1/4".

nak, so double check my calcs!
