Forgot the details! 9 pounds even, 21.5" long
(1 ounce less than her brother, and a lot longer!)
Here's the short version: Ctx started Tuesday afternoon, water broke at 6pm. Headed to the birth center. Labor all night, morning, afternoon, evening, and when I saw the sun set a 2nd time I knew it was a bad sign. We thought I'd been at 6/7 for over 12 hours, but another MW checked me and said I was only 3.
Due to the water being broken so long and lack of dialation, around midnight we agreed it would be best to get me to a hospital and see if an epidural would help me rest long enough to fully dialate.
** insert car ride from hell here **
Followed by an hour an a half of a different kind of hell of trying while trying to sit still for exams and and answering questions while contracting .... the only thing that had kept me sane leading up to this was being able to stay 'on top' of my contractions and move/sway as needed. My back was killing me the whole time.
Finally got some fentanyl (?) to take off the edge, followed by the epidural. At this time I also lost more amniotic fluid that was heavily stained with dark meconium. Shortly thereafter they started talking of augmenting labor to how DD would handle stronger contractions. I freaked and wanted to try a wait and see approach, or get a 2nd opinion when the doc went off shift in a few hours. But they convinced me to try it, and 1/2 hour later the doctor was standing by my bed saying this baby needs to come out NOW.
I was beyond devastated already, as one by one each of my plans and dreams and wishes had been smashed. I consented, and she was born at 5:19 a.m.
They brought in a pediatric team to tend to her ASAP, and they suctioned her well before encouraging any crying. She did have mec in her airway and tummy, but they got it all out before it went to her lungs.
She's been in the Special Care Nursery ever since. They put both of us on IV antibiotics. Hers went bad yesterday and they had to start a new one in her forehead -- they hadn't warned me and I walked in to see a needle taped to my daughter's head! I had no idea they did IVs there and it was shocking to say the least.
On the first day her oxygen levels were alarming frequently, but that's stabilized.
Then she pooped but wouldn't pee so they did an US on her kidneys and cathed her. Kidneys are fine and lots of pee came out so they started IV fluids. Sodium was low so added that. After a few days on that she starting peeing and now they've taken her off the additional fluids.
Her suck is one of our biggest problems right now. At first she would often root, and mouth, and tongue flick, and take my nipple into her mouth, but then she just lays there. Same thing with an artificial nipple. So right from the start she's also had a nose tube taped to her for feedings.
She is gradually getting stronger and happier. I can't really put my finger on one thing that is 'wrong' with her, but she clearly wasn't healthy or happy. She improves every day and I hope the suckling will kick into gear in the next day or two so she can come home. My parents were originally scheduled to be here for 3 weeks but they changed their flight to a week later and now leave this Saturday. Still only gives them 2 days with Meghann if she comes home Thursday.
Did I say this was the short version? lol
Oh, I do get one thing I'd wanted -- the placenta. But not until after they use who knows how much in pathology and keep it in the hospital for 10 days. At least they didn't look at me like I had three heads when I made the request.
Please send me some good pumping vibes, and getting her back on the breast 100%. That is the last thing I can still do for her and that I so desperately want to.
