So I wasn't in Portland, but my midwife in Eugene is currently president of the Oregon Midwifery Council and she is FABULOUS. I'm sure she could recommend someone great. Her name is Colleen and you can prob contact her through her website at www.homemidwiferycare.com.

Good luck!!

Madrona Bourdeaux attended my home birth and I was very impressed with how thoroughly she worked through the prenatal, birth, and post natal periods. I would definately go to her again.

My MW was Jesica Dolin. She works out of Andaluz Waterbirth Center, but she does a lot of homebirths too. She is amazing, and so, soooo smart. Faith was almost born in the caul, and Jes refused to break my water (despite pressure from my MIL and mom!). It turns out that her cord was wrapped three times...and had Jes broken my water it would likely have compressed. As it was, Faith's birth was very very peaceful and sweet.

A girlfriend of mine also birthed with Jesica...she had breech twins and Jes was AWESOME in that situation.

She is truly gifted in her calling.

Another two thumbs up (plus 2 from my DH) for ELLIE LEGARE. Seriously. She ROCKS!

At the time of my first birth, she was working with Kate McLachlan, who was also really great, but ultimately wasn't in town when I birthed.

Now Ellie works with Heather Hack who is also AMAZING!
Ellie's phone number is 503-314-9186.

Five of my close friends have also birthed with Ellie. All have amazing stories, including one transfer (the mom had some unusual health issues).

I love Ellie!

She books up early and is off-call this month. If you call her, you might not hear back from her right away, but only because she is taking her only break of the year.

For my last birth and current pregnancy I have Pamela Hines-Powell. She does travel to Portland for births. www.salemmidwife.com

She's a great hands off midwife with a huge trust in the female body, exactly the kind of midwife I want.
