May 31 2008 Saturday afternoon I was doing my laundry. I was feeling a few really light contractions. So I texted Ronnie and told him I would let him know if they kept happening. I had a feeling that tonight was going to be the night. When we I got home nothing was really happening. I was having strong regular Braxton hicks though. Which wasn’t anything new but I kind of thought it might be something. My little sister had been helping me out all day and we had decided we wanted subway for supper so Ronnie and I took her to dinner. When we got home I went to bed. Ronnie stayed up to play some Xbox 360. My back was feeling pretty sore so it took me a little bit to fall asleep. I woke up a couple of hours later and my back was hurting enough now that I couldn’t go back to sleep. I didn’t really want to tell Ronnie because I didn’t want to get his hopes up prematurely. I asked him why don’t he come to bed. So he came in and snuggled me but I was squirming a lot so he asked what was wrong. I told him I was pretty sure I was having contractions. He said so go bounce on your ball. But I didn’t want to cause if it was contractions then I wanted my rest. I laid there for a couple more minutes but I could tell they weren’t going away and I could sleep. So I got up and made me some RRL tea I went in to go pee and had some bloody mucous. I told. Ronnie so he got up too he was real excited. We tried timing them but they weren’t strong enough for me to really tell how fast and long they were coming. But they were somewhere around 30-45 secs long coming every 7-10 min. I drank my tea and started bouncing on my ball. We were watching the second half of andromeda on TV. The contractions were starting to get harder and the movie was getting cheesy so I said lets go for a walk. So we got ready and went out to go for a walk. We didn’t go on a long one and my contractions were getting stronger. But they were coming in little waves I would have a contraction that would last for about 30 sec then about two min later I would have another one then two min after that a third. Then it would be about 5-7 min until I would have another one. When we got back then we started timing my contractions again while watching TV. They were strong enough now that I could time them. They were coming every five min and lasting 45-60 secs. But I was feeling them completely in my back. So I got down on my knees and lay across Ronnie’s lap and put a hot rice pack on it. And just rocked through the contractions thinking he was turned wrong and this might help it out a little. I stayed like this for the next 45 min. Then I said lets walk around the block again and see if they feel stronger than the last walk. They were now single contractions and were getting strong. Making me want to pause while I was walking. But I could walk through them. We decided we better call my mom since she lives 3 hours away and wanted to be there for the birth. It was two o’clock in the morning now. Ronnie asked if I wanted to go in. I told him I would call and see when they wanted me to come in since I was group B strep +.so I called the birthing center to let them know I had been having contractions since 9:00 and that I was having some bloody mucous as well. I asked her when they wanted me to come in. she asked how long I had been having contractions and how far apart. I told her that they had been 5 min apart for an hour. Although it had probably been 2 or 3 hours. She said they liked them to have been going for at least two hours just to make sure so to call back then. Ronnie got a little discouraged at this point and went in and went to sleep. I knew I wouldn’t be able to though. So I got on the computer and told people I thought this was it and timed my contractions to make sure they were still happening. I was afraid they would stop lol. I decided I wanted to take a shower and if they weren’t real than that would stop them. They didn’t stop. But I took a long shower as it felt nice to relax my back some since this was still where I was feeling 99% of the contractions. After my shower I went in and timed my contractions for another 20 or 30 min. checked the clock and it was 4:00am so I called the birthing center back and asked them if I needed to come in now. They said yes. So I went and woke Ronnie up and told him it was time to go in. We called my mom again and let her know we were headed in. We also called his parents. We got everything loaded up and drove up to the Birthing Center. We got all checked in and she hooked me up to the monitor. It was nice to hear Kadens heart beat as he hadn’t been moving much and I was a little concerned. My contractions were still 4-5 min apart but they were lasting 50-70 secs. And I was definitely feeling them now. I had to concentrate and breathe through them. When the nurse checked me I was 5-6 cm dilated and 80% effaced I was really glad to hear this as I was worried I would only be a 3 or 4. So we called my mom again to let her know where I was sitting. I lay in bed and labored for the next hour. The nurse checked me again at 7:00 and I was at a seven. At eight I was an eight and at nine they switched nurses. The new nurse checked me and it hurt like all get out. But she said I was an 8 or 9. The doctor finally got there and checked me and broke my water. Asked me if I wanted any pain medicine. I said no I was still feeling really good at this point. Although I was getting really tired. After he broke my water then my contractions got a lot stronger and my back was just killing me. I had been using heat packs to help with that. I got up and went pee and when I got back I tried the all fours position. This made the contractions even worse. I did three this way then got back into bed. At this point my contractions were coming every three min and lasting a min and I was starting to struggle with the pain. And was feeling absolutely no pressure or urge to push. It was around 11 or 12 now and the nurse checked me again I was still at an 8 and it put me over the edge for her to dig around in there again. Ronnie was out talking to his family and kept leaving… I needed some support I wasn’t getting and I didn’t know how to tell Ronnie what to do. Looking back now I should have got in the tub but I wasn’t thinking at this point. I gave up and told Ronnie to tell the nurse I wanted something for the pain. After I gave up mentally I really couldn’t handle the contractions so I got the staidol and it did absolutely nothing shouldn’t have got it. But I figured since I already had drugs in my system might as well get something that worked. So they called the anesthesiologist. My mom showed up at this point and tried to get me to just breathe through it but I had lost my will to and I got the intra treacle. It’s a one time shot in your back that is very good for back labor. Which is still where 90 percent of my pain was. But it made me itch and I was loopy from the staidol. An hour later they checked me and there was only a lip left. So they called the doctor and got everything set up for pushing. The doctor came in and checked and I had a little more than he wanted me to so he left for a little while. About 20 min later he checked me and it was only a lip so they decided to have me start pushing. It was 1:20 But I wasn’t having any urge to push I could feel the contractions good but just wasn’t getting the urge. They had me push a few times just sitting there with my feet on the stirrups. Then had me get up and squat every time to push. The doctor was pretty worried because he wasn’t moving down. So they got the vaccume and were hoping it would work or I was going to have to go get a c-section. This was the most painful part of the whole day he had to shove the suction cup all the way up in there and attach it to his head and he was still way up there. At this point they had me put my legs up on the bar instead of squatting because I was about exhausted from getting up and down. It was about 2:00 now so I would get a contraction and push and he would suck and it still wasn’t doing anything. So he numbed up the area and cut my perrineal area. This broke ronnies heart. The doctor thought he was getting squeamish and asked if he was okay and he said ya I am just trying not to cry. I was getting so tired all I could think about was push then take a sip of water and push again. After the episiotomy I could feel him start to move down. And I could tell better how to push (I never did get the urge to push) at 2:35 about the doctor reached over and grabbed a towel and I knew I was getting close Also Ronnie was getting real excited cause he could see his head poking in and out. So on that last contraction I pushed for all I was worth I could feel his head pop out and they had me push again and they pulled his body out. His little hand was up by his neck which is what probably caused most of the problems with the labor and his not engaging. His heart beat never wavered through the whole labor. He is a strong little boy. But it was the weirdest feeling in the world to have him pulled out. And he was huge. I couldn’t believe something that big had been inside my belly. He started whining right away. They took him over and scrubbed him clean with a towel and he started crying. You could hear the family outside get really excited. I just sat there and tried to absorb it all while the doctor stitched me up. His chest and head were 14 inches and he had a major cone head. The nurse said we could hold him I told Ronnie he could hold him first. I drank a bunch of water. I told them to go weigh him and then I would hold him so I could nurse him. Ronnie came back in with a grin and said guess how much he weighed and I said umm 7 lbs 5 ounces. He was like nope he is 8 lbs 10 ounces. I couldn’t believe it we figured he would be high sevens max. I took my little boy in my arms and hugged him close. He latched on almost first try and nursed like a champ from the beginning. I am so grateful for this precious little angel the lord blessed us with. I can’t believe that finally after 2 ½ years and 3 miscarriages before him we have our little Kaden Troy. I didn’t know it was possible to feel so much love for something and I am the luckiest woman in the world to be this little mans Mother.
