Iron Maiden...

Okay - I fully expect this thread to sink to the bottom without a fight, but what the heck..

DH, DS1 and I saw Iron Maiden last night (4th time for dh, 2nd time for ds1, 5th time for me). I love this band. They put on a show like nobody else I've ever seen, and the crowd vibe was amazing. I headbanged and fist punched my heart out last night, and I feel better than I have in...months. What a beautiful catharsis...

It probably seems a little strange that a band known to the masses for Number of the Beast, and spandex and long hair could actually help put a grieving mama back on her feet, but they did it. Wow! I currently have a slightly trashed voice, a completely wrecked shoulder, and my morale is at a high. I'd almost forgotten how utterly wonderful I feel after one of their shows, and I want them to come back next month!

Are there, by any chance, any other Maiden fans hiding out at MDC? Any at all?

Yayy! I was pretty sure this thread was doomed.

Have you seen them this tour?

I can't claim to be a fan, but It sounds like you had a great time, and if something makes you feel that good- go for it! its not harmful, no one was hurt, and you did it as a family! Might have to check them out. BTW, aerosmith and def leppard do that to me

Girl, I applaud you for going out and getting down with I.M.

they were my first concert back in '83....I remember when they took Eddie's brains out and threw them into the crowd.

good stuff.

glad you had fun!!!

Def Leppard used to have the same effect, but I found they'd lost it (or I had?) on the Slang tour, and I haven't seen them since. I've only seen Aerosmith once, but they definitely put on a show, and I'm glad I went!

Susana...Was '83 the World Slavery Tour of the Piece of Mind tour? My first one was in '84, at World Slavery - and they had the giant Eddie again this time - fireworks pouring from his eyes and all. They're a 6 piece these days, and the walk-on Eddie had "fight" with the new guitarist, as well as playing one of the other guitars. It was just...cool...

Okay - so my over-the-top "I grew up in the 80s" streak is showing...

Bruce Dickinson is actually flying them around for this tour - and works for an airline in the UK when he's not on tour. How's that for a little out of the ordinary for a metal vocalist?

I have, but that was over 8 years ago... they were touring with Rob Halford and Queensryche.

I saw that one, too. I missed Queensryche, though. We had Meet & Greet passes to meet the band, and we got down there way before the band was ready. We got pulled out just as Halford ended, and then spent Queensryche's entire set at the Meet & Greet. It was pretty cool, though - my then-7 year old ds1 got his picture taken with Janick. I'd still like to see Queensryche, though - my ex saw them a couple years ago, and said it was a great show.

I love this "flashback". I'm a bit of a Maidenn fan but when I saw Queensryche mentioned, I had to jump in, that is my band. Geoff Tate is my "freebie", as if he would ever meet me and want to take advantage of that. haha

Anyway I just LOVE 80's rock. My favorite channel on dh's sirius radio is Hair Nation.

Geoff Tate is the only metal vocalist that I'm willing to concede is probably better than Bruce. It breaks my heart to admit it, but...

He, Halford and Dickinson were supposed to be doing a joint project called...The Three Tremors (I think) a few years ago. I don't know what came of it. I know Halford and Dickinson did one joint song for Halford's Resurrection album, though.

I Love Hair Nation!

How glad am I to see this thread? OP, I know exactly how you feel! I really do. There is no feeling in the world like that rush you get at an awesome show of your favorite band. Awesome!

Okay, I have Best of the Beast, but I'm not a Maiden fan. I do, however, want more than almost anything to see a Rammstein concert.

Glad you enjoyed them!

He's also an excellent fencer and taught my husband's boarding school class how to fence. The lessons were loved by all he said.

My DH is a big fan and agrees that they are the best live show he's ever experienced.

This one was especially good. The vibe was just amazing. When I see the older bands, there tends to be a lot of fans who haven't really listened to the music for a long time, and are just kind of on a nostalgia kick. They sit through the whole show, and don't really get into it, yk? There's nothing wrong with that, but it's soooooo much better when everyone is rocking. Plus, there was a minimum of the not-so-pleasant kind of rowdiness - a few people chucked out for rushing the floor, but that's about it.

Yup. I've seen a lot of bands live, and I still say they're the best. This tour was probably about on par with the World Slavery Tour in '84-'85.

I knew he was an excellent fencer, but I had no idea he'd ever done any teaching.

He's a writer, too. He co-wrote "The Chemical Wedding", which I won't be watching (it's a thriller, and I don't like them). It looks really strange from the trailers. Of course, he also wrote Lord Iffy Boatrace and The Missionary Position. I'd like to read them, just as a curiosity, but I understand they're not very good.

Disturbing? Maiden? Why? I mean...their videos only feature things like Eddie and catacombs and a bunch of mercenaries planning to start a nuclear war (as far as I can tell, that's what's going on in "Two Minutes to Midnight" - but it's hard to say for sure).

Yeah - they definitely had a bit of creepy edge, despite the campiness factor.
