Soonest menstration returns postpartum while exclusely breastfeeding?

xposted in breastfeeding cause i didn'y know where to put it!

I am only 3 1/2 weeks postpartum. My daughter was born at home with no complications. I had lochia for two weeks which has since stopped last week. But then this morning I am having menstrual like cramps and some very light red spotting( like a very light period). My daughter is exclusively breastfeed on demand and we cosleep, so she is nursing through the night too. I am also tandem nursing wiht my two year old. I am really wondering if this is my menstrual cycle returning so soon!? Or could it be something else? If so, is it normal to have like a mini period postpartum before your cycle returns while nursing? With my other children, my menstrual cycle returned at 8 months and 4 months...and I thought that was soon while exclusively breastfeeding!

I am 9 weeks PP. At 5 1/2 weeks, my darkish bleeding changed to bright red. It is on a few days, off a couple, and this is still continuing. At first, I thought it could be my period. But I don't think that is really possible since I never stopped bleeding - and since I have continued to bleed (for 3 1/2 weeks now). With my others, I got my period back at 18 mos and 15 mos. I'm not sure what the cause is of my current bleeding. I'm going to be seen next week. I somewhat think it may be hormonal - a hormonal imbalance maybe? Maybe hormonal imbalance issues caused you to get your period back so early with your other two? It might be worth getting hormonal bloodwork. I think I am going to do that. You can also do hormonal saliva testing. Maybe I'm way off base on this hormonal stuff - just a thought.

Each time for me (3X thus far) and each time for my sister (4X) we got our periods back, even when bfing on demand and co-sleeping at night -- after 4-6 weeks. It sucks! i AM SORRY. It is actually not that uncommon, every woman is different.

It could be the early return of AF, or it could be the return of lochia, especially if you've been overdoing things this week. Lochia is much more likely.

You probably just tore a little bit and caused some extra bleeding--my lochia has come and gone several times with each delivery, depending on how much I walk around during the day or pick up my toddler. There's really no way to know until next month, if it happens again.

3 months, here, I was very disappointed.

like another pp, my lochia came and went a couple times with both of my previous births. I couldn't connect it directly with anything, so either I unknowingly overdid things, or this is just normal for me...

3 or 4 weeks with 3 of my kiddo's. Not fair- but mine have since stopped this time around- but I think that's the Minera doing it's job. With DD#3 I didn't get my period at all! of course I was pregnant and didn't know it. hehehe....

thanks for your replies. well today i am officially 4 weeks pp. and i woke up this morning and the bleeding is exactly like a period ...after the lochia stopped about a week ago completely. i was reading baout something called a "six-week bleed" perhaps this could be it? it is not like my pp bleeding at all. i am upset if this is AF so sooN! jeesh!

I have EBF my babes and my period has returned between 4-6 weeks postpartum each time. My first baby was colicky, and had reflux and would nurse constantly day and night, and still by 6 weeks there was AF. This last pregnancy lochia lasted a full 6 weeks, and 4 weeks later, af. Some people are definitely just (un)lucky that way.

Sorry to have to agree.. but been there done that.

With my first child my period returned at 5 weeks PP, 2nd child I think it was about 8 weeks PP. NOT Fair! I was also EBF..... but it happens .

with my 1st, af was back at 6 weeks. Lochia had only been gone about 5 days. but then it only came every 8 weeks until he started solids at 6 mos. With my 2nd, lochia lasted longer (nearly 8 wks... perhaps related to surgical birth? dunno), but then no AF until 10 mos.
