Laundry Detergent

Is there a way to just use vinegar and baking soda in the washing machine? I use All Free and Clear now but people say it's still loaded with chemicals. Vinegar and baking soda would be cheaper too. Anyone know the ratios and if it actually cleans (I have 3 kids).

Okay, I haven't delved into making my own detergent yet but i have made my own dishwasher soap with equal parts Borax and Baking soda. I put them in a glass jar and shook them up really good I use a little less than an 1/8 cup per load and I keep vinegar in the rinse aid. So far so good, clean dishes and it's cheap and doesn't create lots of waste or pollute.

For the laundry I think you might want some soap in there. You could place borax, baking soda and a shredded bar of soap in a container. Not sure how much to use per load though. Hopefully someone else will chime in here.

Missa

I've never tried just using baking soda and WV. Made my own laundry soap with equal parts Borax, Washing Soda (diff from baking soda) and grated Fels Naptha soap. That recipe was passed around a lot on another board. And it worked just fine for me. Used WV in the rinse.
