my little girl loves to sit in her carseat enough to put her in it. we have a ceiling fan in our kitchen so i usually take my hand and give it a good push enough for her to watch it while we strap her in. but one in the car, she only lasts for about five minutes before she screams to the point her face turns blue. my husband thinks we should just let her cry herself to sleep, but it screams me that shes getting that worked up about being in the car. she did really great for the first couple of weeks she was at home with us, and we took her anywhere. but the past couple of weeks anytime we have to put her in the seat and go somewhere its like we're killing her or something, i had to see her get that worked up so i end up sitting in back with her. which i wont be able to do when i go back to work and have to take her to the babysitter, any ideas?

My dd1 and now dd2 does the same thing. She is hysterical and screams until she chokes...and we're in the car at MOST 10 minutes! Music seems to help some and I know toys help some once they get a little bit older. Once they can focus better and love mirrors, those that attach to the seat behind the carseat give them something to look at.

My first child cried in the car seat until 18 months and whimpered and whined until we turned her forward facing at 2.5 years, so I understand your pain.
One thing that helped a lot was for me to sit in back with her while DH drove, and after a while, I even figured out how to lean over the car seat and nurse her while she was still strapped in. We also tried to time car trips to coincide with naps. My DD wasn't really thrilled with this clip-on toy bar, but my DS absolutely LOVES it. He'll play with it for an entire 30 minute trip. If your backseat has head rests, you can get a hanging DVD player and play something like Baby Einstein. I know this isn't a very natural or MDC recommendation, but I personally would take it over a screaming-until-blue-in-the-face baby.
Good luck! I promise that it eventually does get better. Once we turned my DD forward, she went from hating the car seat to being fine for a 3-hour drive.
