Storing living room blankets

This may seem petty, but how do you store your blankets in your living room? You know, the ones to cuddle under while reading or watching a movie? Right now, I have a willow laundry basket, but it just looks messy. You can sort of see here:

I have no room in my closet.

my afghans are tossed over the armchairs.

if folded neatly they look nice.

I have a set of 3 decorate chests and I use the largest one to store blankets in. I usually almost always leave out because it constantly gets used, so I fold it neatly over the back of the sofa. But typically, the other 3 or 4 are in the chest.

I used to just use a basket too, and it did always look messy. Can you get a basket with a lid? Or a nice looking storage trunk? I love the look of the basket with a lid, and you can usually find them anywhere you can get regular baskets- I've seen some nice ones at Target, Pier 1, Kohls, etc.

i used to use this http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/70025035
...now it's become a toy box, but it was great for blankets and even a few pillows for when someone slept on the couch

I want a ottoman that can double as a coffee table if you put a tray on top. It can be rotated around the room as a seat, window seat, table, or seasonal display

or a storage cube www.homedecorators.com/P/Soho_15_Square_Storage_Ottoman/810/

We have these in dark chocolate brown "Markor" and our blankets use to sleep in a bottom drawer. seattle.craigslist.org/est/fur/702198528.html

My grandma used to have one of these and now that I looked it up I am thinking "hey that looks like a playstand" ! Hmm!

Thanks! I like the idea of a chest or lidded basket. I wonder if I can find one fairly inexpensively... We used to have them folded over the couch, but with six of us, there are quite a few blankets.

I know not everyone's a fan, but Target had some pretty nice ones for pretty cheap, and also I've seen some at the thrift stores on occasion.

A chest or large basket that could be kept underneath your coffee table. That will keep it out of the way and clear up floor space.

We added an extra shelf to our closet and we roll up the blankets (takes up far less space that way) and place them up there. I also added an inexpensive shoe rack to the bottom of the closet and DD's blanket lives on that (along with the sand toys bag and pool bag and other stuff).

Do you have room behind your couch at all? One of our couches is at an angle to the wall and we are able to store them back there. We don't have any room for baskets or chests in the room...

Here in NM it is common to get one of those kive-style ladders and drape folded blankets over them. Maybe not the best idea if you have a little person to pull it over.

We usually just toss it over the back of the couch but I am thinking of attaching an iron towel rod (hand-forged) to the back of my kitchen bench nook and hanging blankets on it.

I really like those ottomans that lift up for storage.

You could also try a quilt rack- either one that mounts on the wall or a free-standing one.

One corner of our living room is kind of empty so the kids have a stash of toys there and I just pile the blankets there as well. Unless you're actually in that corner you can't see anything.

I have one of the ottoman's with the lift-top. It works great.

we have a huge crock (i call it a cauldron! lol!). all the blankets and the kids fun pillows are in there. my partner bought it at an auction.

kind of like this: http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...r/DSCN4274.jpg

but ours is ceramic.

before this, i used to have a coffee table that had storage underneath.

We use a basket too. I just make sure they are folded. This is the rule in our house. It looks nice and neat like this.

Our TV is on top of a coffee-table that has different compartments. I have baskets in four of them, but the other two are used for blankets.

Anybody have childproof suggestions? LOL Mine are currently stored all over the floor and not JUST in the living room *sigh*

Someone once sent me a really neat idea. It was a pattern to use to make a pillow cover, and then you could fold your out-of-season blankets and throws and stuff the pillow cases with them. Makes a lot of sense, and if you sew and are crafty, you could maybe do something like that...
