this really gets me.. im relactating for my ds and when i went to my OB he said he was pretty sure it wasnt possible but to let him know if i figured it so that he could help other women in his practice who wanted to do that.t ok so not helpful but seems like a pretty open mind. my pcp didnt even call me back herself. she had the receptionist call me back to tell me that relactation isnt possible and she doesnt know why the people at the hospital would have told me it was... and (this is my favorite) that i shouldnt even bother trying any herbs or medication because it would be a lot of work with out the possibility of success. and she is a DO whose specialty is womens health!!

funny bit.. my psychiatrist is the one who told me it was possible ... i like that she knows but the OB and PCP dont. she even researched all kinds of adhd medicines and found out i could stay on mine and breastfeed depsite what i was previously told.

Have you gone and squirted them in the face yet? Okay, okay, little more grown-up.... Have you gone and squirted a stream of milk in to your LO's mouth in front of your PCP yet?

Oops, I see that you're in process on that. Well, be sure to share how things go in a couple weeks then. (I have no idea how long it takes to relactate, 2 weeks just sounds like a nice short time that could be totally possible.)

That is funny! Yeah, how long DOES it take to relactate?

Good for you. As for your OB, hopefully you'll be able to educate him, and he'll be able to help other women. As for your PCP, I'm looking forward to hearing your "I told you so" story!

It's really hard to know exactly or how completely your body will relactate. I know there are a lot of good resources out there but you have to find them. One rule of thumb I've heard is that however old your baby is, 3 weeks, 3 months, it will take approximately that long to obtain maximum production. But it's just a rule of thumb and nothing studied, etc.

Here's just one link
http://www.lact-aid.com/rpt025.htm

I googled relactation and I don't know how good the link is. I just think you need to look around. HTH. Oh, and how wonderful you're starting out with some good drops!!!!! How exciting.

The above link has some excellent info. It's about adoptive breastfeeding, but the info is the same for relactation.

I hope it works well for you.

I my OB, he was great to me. But he knew NOTHING about breastfeeding. A big supporter, just not a lot of knowledge.

Why on earth can't doctors say "I don't know" or "I've never heard of that" instead of "It's not possible" when it's something they're unfamiliar with?

Pump out some milk in a freezer bag for storing bm and then mail it in a padded mailer to the docs with a note telling them relactation IS possible and you will be happy to share the research they were not willing to do for you so that they don't steer any other women wrong in the future! Good on you!!
