did your serger arrive already threaded?

I just received my Brother Homelock 1034D, which dh ordered for me as a birthday present. When I got ready to open the box, it turned out I didn't need my scissors because the tape wasn't really sealing the box, which was weird. When I opened it, I discovered that there are already four spools of thread (four different colors) already threaded in the machine. I'm wondering if this is normal? (saw no mention of thread being included in the operation manual) Or did I maybe receive a machine that someone else had returned?

I believe that particular model does come like that. Is it 4 different color threads too? You should do a test strip and check the tensions so you know what settings work best for you

Yeah, it was 4 different colors.

Phew, thanks, it's reassuring to know it's supposed to be that way. I've had a bad experience with something I ordered from Amazon once a few years ago and it kept having problems and I eventually learned it was a return and recondition!

I haven't checked the tension or anything yet b/c I'm a little intimidated to even get it out of the box! Soon, I hope....

I've seen them either come with spools, or that they're at least threaded and have been cut from the spools with extra length so you can tie on new spools without hassling with threading.

The 4 colors are to help you get the tension setting right and to help you see how the different threads are threaded. It can be a little confusing if you just go by the diagrams.
But don't just unthread it and rethread it. You can tie the new thread on the old thread and run it through your machine really slowly until it gets to the needles and then you only have to thread the needles. I hope that made sense.
But yeah, its normal.

My first one (Singer) came threaded with four mini spools of white thread. My current serger (Janome) did not come with any thread.
