oh this made me so mad - i exclusively pumped for almost 3mths (including nicu time) before my son would latch and would have been devastated. have sent off a complaint to catsa...am including the link for that too.

"Nina Brewer-Davis stood in tears at Vancouver International Airport's security checkpoint Tuesday morning as she watched a guard throw 1½ litres of her breast milk in the garbage"

CATSA - http://www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca/english.../contact.shtml

i work at an airport part time and will be there this weekend and i plan on talking about this with some catsa agents!

"Baby food, formula, milk, water and juice are exempt from the restrictions if the passenger is travelling with a baby two years old or younger."

So when my DD is 3 and I bring her on a plane, I won't be able to feed her? (see siggy)

That's f'ed up. I'm not planning on traveling by plane anytime soon, but if I were this would make me change my plans. If someone threw out my milk and I had to supplement with formula, I'd be demanding someone pay her inevitable medical bill...she has poor gastric motility and formula would likely result in a trip to the doc, if not to the ER.

The USA at least switched it to even w/o a baby... sounds like we need to get Canada to agree!! That is just infuriating!

how horrible

Man I wish I was there. I'd have helped her get it all into smaller "allowable" conatiners and I would have carried the extra through on my allowance for her. How very sad and down right RONG. Shame on CATSA!!! I have had words with them before about all this (even though I'm not a pumping mama) and I always leave shaking my head.

Wow, I can't think of anything else to say I am TOO shocked. Wow!

I just saw this and I am horrified and so sad for that mom. I found more details - her baby is 7 months old. If she is using her pumped supply often (as in, not just this one time to maintain supply), this incident could potentially compromise her baby's bm diet.

I think I would have been arrested right then and there because I would have gone totally apeshit. I pumped for dd when she was young (starting at 3 mo) and it was hard to make sure she had enough milk while I was at work. If someone were to throw my milk away, I would absolutely lose it.
