Anyone else a big weight gainer while pg?

Do you gain a lot? Do you think it's your body's need? I gained 60+ with my first two and am right on track for the same this time (40 right now at 29 wks). I lose weight like crazy while nursing and believe I will need every ounce of that weight and then some to nurse (lost 80 lbs+ from birthdays nursing each kiddo and no thyroid issues & wasn't overweight at all to begin with). It doesn't matter what I eat- I've eaten very healthy this pregnancy a ton of fresh fruits, nuts, etc and still gain at the same rate regardless of diet/exercise/etc. When I'm nursing I have to eat about twice what I do now and still lose 1-3 lbs/wk for the first year. My MW said I need to gain at least 40 (bless the MW b/c last 2 times was an argument over my weight gain). Anyone else a big gainer?

I gained almost 50 with my 1st but only 12 with my 2nd. I really think those babies know what they need.

I gained 64lb with my first and 57lb with my second. I lost the weight very quickly after giving birth. My body just knows what it needs to do.

I gained 52 with DS. I have 13 to go before my pp weight.

When i got pregnant i was 135 lb.

In my 9th month i was 182 lb.

And i lost it all pretty quickly after the baby was born.

I gained 60 with DD. Nursing also takes a lot of weight off of me...I ended up 15 lbs lighter than my pre-preg weight at 1 year postpartum.

This time I've gained around 45 at 38 weeks. I was on track to gain 55-60 but strangely my gain slowed down in the last week or two, whereas last time it didn't.

Always. With all 4. I'm skinny-average otherwise. I just gain a lot of weight when I'm pregnant!

I'm happy to see this thread because I've been kind of worried about this issue. With my first ds I gained 50 pounds. No problems and I felt great. I started this latest pregnancy 10 pounds heavier than my first pre-pregnancy weight and at 12 weeks have already gained almost 15 pounds. I feel the need to eat constantly and I really do feel hungry. I just can't believe I've gained so much so quickly. And it is all belly fat! It worries me a bit...but I'm not sure why. I guess because you hear that mantra over and over "normal weight gain is 20-30 pounds" - well, if I stay on this course I'm gonna gain a whole lot over 50 pounds this time. So, what's the deal - why is it such a big deal to gain a lot of weight anyway?

I *think* it's b/c some people either eat a very poor diet or get so heavy it causes issues with delivery or a *huge* baby (which I don't understand- this is just what I'm guessing from what I've heard). Another issue is losing weight too fast while nursing and releasing of toxins from what I've heard, but I really don't 'get' that- especially if one isn't trying to lose weight!

Thank you all!!!!!!!! Around 28-30 wks I always start to feel a kind of panic at the weigh-in but rationally I know I need the weight. I fear having to shop in the childrens' section again once I start nursing (yeah, for me, not the baby ).

I am so happy to see this thread. I have been depressed about my weight gain. I have already gained 40 lbs and I am 26 wks! My midwife says not to worry bc I look good, don't have HBP, swelling, etc., but geez, how depressing.

Like the PP's, I always lose weight fast just by BF. In fact w/my prev. 2 children I lost all the baby weight by the time they were 6 mo. old.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

I gained 60+ pounds with both of my pregnancies. I ate a pregnancy diet that was high in protein and very healthy. With the first, I was back down to pre-pregnancy weight at 12 months, just from nursing. I'm only 4 months postpartum now and have already lost 40 pounds. I'm going to have to watch it once my pregnancy weight is gone, since I'm nursing two this time.

My babies were both "big." Dd was 8'11" and ds was 10'2". But in no way were there any delivery issues; I had each of them at home with fast, easy (though intense) labors and no tearing. I'm a tall woman (5'11") and I believe my body just put on what weight was needed to create some very healthy baby bodies and to feed them properly afterward.

I gained 48 lbs when I was pregnant with DS. I gained a lot of weight in the first 15 weeks and then gained steadily the remaining weeks. I was back to pre-pregnancy weight at 6 months. Those little nurslings just suck it right out of you!

I gained 50 with my first. My baby was an average, meaty baby and I attribute much of that to my weight gain so the only guilt I ever feel is when I look at a picture of myself at 9 months pregnant ...

Started out at 95 and then went to...Well, add 50 pounds to that- lol.

Also, I have read that especially underweight women (like me) need to gain *more* than the average weight woman to have extra, since they didn't start out with extra. I don't know if this is actually true, but it's still probably a very good idea.

With dd I gained 59 lbs, and delivered a few weeks early. All was gone within 3 weeks. It was a mostly healthy pregnancy, although my bp did get a little elevated. With ds, I gained 50 lbs. It was a healthy pregnancy except for 2 blood clots. I have 6 lbs left 6 months later, my weight stabilized after a month. I feel my large gains were necessary. I ate healthy, according to appetite, not much junk. I exercised every day. A lot was fluid, which I couldn't control. My babies were not huge. DD was 5 lbs 13 oz and ds was 8 lbs 7 oz, so both were somewhat normal for their gestations.

I gained about 100 lbs with each pregnancy. In 'off-season', as I like to refer to it, I'm fairly slender, around 125 lbs. With pregnancy, though, I get heavy.

I do recall seeing pictures of my mom and grandmother pregnant, and they, too, gained a lot of weight with each pregnancy.

All of our pregnancies had no complications, no birth complications, either. I, myself, eat very healthy, and excersise heavily (for example, we moved 5 times during my first pregnancy, and it was only DH and I.. I moved tvs, couches, etc). I just gained!

I never really got bothered by it. It's just what my body does during pregnancy. I'm about 11 months pp now and have been at my 'off-season' size for a few months already. Granted, I get stretched to high heaven, and my stomach resembles (and feels like!) bread dough, but still!

I gained 48 pounds the first time. He was pretty big.

This time, I've only gained 16 lbs at 35 weeks. I'm hoping that means a smaller baby, too. (Didn't really do much different, though, just different babies/different needs)

I gained 65 pounds. Lost all of it within about 8 months or so. I also believe that my body needed that extra weight for breastfeeding and babywearing!

I gained 50 with dd#1...lost it all w/in about 6 weeks pp.
newly pregnant w/ #2...not too worried about gaining same amount again...I'm not gorging on milkshakes or anything...but if I gain a lot, I gain a lot
seemed to work perfectly the first time around!
