I have a 2 year old and 4 year old and I'm wanting a better toothpaste for them. I'm slowly working my way through all of our hygiene products and switching to natural, healthier products and their toothpaste is on the list. Their teeth are in great condition- I just want to keep them that way. lol Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My kids (2 & 7) love Spry Infant Tooth Gel which is made with xylitol-there is a ton that I could say about xylitol but am too tired-you could search it here at MDC and finds lots of info.

ds loves the weleda children's tooth gel.

He's 3. This is the only tooth paste we have ever used and his teeth look great.

I would only use a tooth product that doesn't have sodium larel sulfate and glycerin. I use stuff from uncleharrys.com on my 1 yr old.

I went to our local health market tonight and they had the Spry tooth gel and the Weleda for kids but I couldn't make up my mind between the two so I'm dragging dh back with me tomorrow to help me decide. lol

I second the Weleda. It seems pretty safe and it tastes good.

I know the dangers of sodium larel sulfate but not glycerin. Could you elaborate? The Weleda we use on ds has glycerin and I'm now worried that we should change it if it's bad.

I second Weleda, too.
However, our first dentist meant that actually no toothpaste at all is necessary in most cases for children.

Tom's of Maine Silly Strawberry!

You can get it either with fluoride or fluoride-free.

We use eco-dent tooth powder, we like the cinnamon flavor, though I hear the lemon-lime is good (our local store doesn't have lemon-lime and once the kids liked the cinnamon, I didn't switch when I started buying it online at vitacost). I keep meaning to look into tooth soap but just haven't yet. Old threads (if the search worked!) would have lots of testimonials, I just haven't had the heart to change yet another thing.

We use Weleda, too, and have been very happy with it.

you can definitely go without toothpaste for the kids and yourself if you want to - the toothbrush itself does the cleaning it's not like a cleanser per se. And for sure go w/o until they can spit on command and know not to swallow- swallowing fluoride is unhealthy...a whole mouthful will make a small kid vomit. Unless they really want to have the fresh taste, I wouldn't even bother w/ the fluoride free, since that's the main purpose of the paste. Just a plain brush will do it!

: Spry Infant Tooth Gel is a great product for toddlers - a sweet, tasteless gel without many ingredients. I bought it in bulk from dentist.net.
