Gregory- the bullet version story

In no particular order, because I don't know when/if I'll get the whole thing written- in bullet form, interesting factoids.

*Lasted forever again
*incredibly long pushing- due to cervical lip that kept coming back (~ 8 hours by our estimate)
*FABULOUS midwives (mine plus two different second hands as one had to leave for a birth ) VERY patient- no stress
*born ENTIRELY in caul. unbroken. freaky cool
*cord around neck !5! yes, 5, five, times around the neck
*apparently I make huge, mondo placentas, strong sacks and long cords

OMG, you pushed for EIGHT hours? I thought I was a champ having pushed for 3.5 hours.

You are a hero!

Also, I totally admire your resolve at going "overdue." Even though I know "overdue" is a myth, my head gets freaky in the last month of pregnancy. All the what ifs creep in. It is a tremendous accomplishment to overcome all that and do what you know is best for your babe.

That is a great story! (even just in bullets. hahaha)

WOW! You will definitely have an interesting story to tell him when he gets older!

Congrats again, and I am so glad you had a nice, safe, (if not easy) homebirth!

Can't wait to see pictures!

do you have any pictures of him in the caul? i've never seen that, it's so incredibly rare, i'd love to check it out. also, curious about the cord being wrapped 5 times...did your midwives just let the cord stayed wrapped until the baby was fully born (since he was in the caul) or did they rupture the bag to unwrap the cord when his head came out and they saw that he had the cord around his neck?

Congrats. If you are comfortable to share I would also love to see pictures of the baby in the caul. I've heard of it, but I've never seen any.

Have pics somewhere... but don't feel comfortable posting, sorry...

They were still feeling for cord and counting wraps when I pushed him the rest of the way out. There was really no break between head and shoulders.

Thanks. Dd was partially in the caul, but this bug was entirely in still. I haven't even looked at the pics yet... but I know we got some good ones.

Wow that sounds almost too special to be true! Congratulations!

Did you run a marathon while pushing? Did he jump rope with the cord? It sounds like he could :

OK, stupid question - whats in the caul? I thought it meant that the baby is completely in the sac still? But if your dd was born partially in the caul, my definition makes no sense?

yep that's what it means, i think partially in the caul means that the water bag ruptured as she was being born, so her head would have been out but the rest of her body in, or something along those lines.

but wow, eight hours of pushing that is amazing. and two in the caul babes! i'm kind of hoping for one

making placentas, sacs, and cords that strong is nothing other than a testament to how well you take care of yourself (and maybe some genetics, but who cares about that), good job mama. it seems to make sense that someone so obviously in tune with herself would have babies born in the caul, goes perfectly with all those myths/stories about kids born in the caul as well.

Ah, ok that makes sense. But maybe you should be careful about congratulating someone for something that was basically luck. plenty of people have their water break during labor or before, even when they take very good care of themselves.

Why doesn't it make sense? :

Sounds, to me, like she's likely saying her DD was partially out already when it broke.
